Another £25 (give or take a few pence) gone yesterday, £15 of it at the county town market, whilst shopping for my 90 y.o. mother; top-ups of fruit, veg & some spices, plus some bread. Then £10 at the supermarket up the road, when I discovered that the leftover beef I'd been going to add to a stir-fry had gone off in someone's lunchbox instead. So I trotted off & bought some chicken instead, and one or two other things we were low on...

Bought a few 'treat-y' items today, things which are more additions to food. Got balsamic vinegar, pesto, thai green curry paste (too unconfident to make my own paste at the moment) and milk.

£1.58 on the two pesto's in home bargains

£3.69 on the other bits in MrT

Have £10.62 left. Tight but still possible.

By the way, this is quite naughty but I am already preparing my MrM delivery for next saturday. I can't tell you how often I've added items, taken away items, doubled items, halved items, looked round the local shops and on mysupermarket to make sure I'm getting the best deal, it's hard work! :)

  • £2 today on ice cream
I cheated yesterday - took £20 out of my business account (I'm self employed) and went and had a pint. I'm considering this a work bonus but if it's not going to make life really tricky I'll try to keep £20 in the grocery budget at the end of the month.
I'm not beating myself up about it, it's been a very difficult month on many levels.
  • Tumpty, I concur that sometimes you just have to give yourself a break/treat. It helps get you through whatever is going on. :)

Sent DS2 to the store yesterday for sugar and strawberries to go with a cake I had made.
    $10.21 total so $297.39/$500
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

I went to a butchers today and spent 22.97 - but got a pack of 14 sausages, two sirloin steaks, 8 burgers, 3 large chicken breast and a pork joint for £20 - the other money was some freezer stuff they sell.

I'll use the pork on Sunday for a roast and then make pork fajitas or stir fry for Monday with left overs, the sirloin will be used tomorrow for tea. (three meals)

The chicken breast will make 3 meals, most likely chicken & chorizo jambalaya, chicken & leek pie and a curry. (three meals)

The burgers will be McMammies x2 and the sausages 8 will be used in a sausage casserole and the other in 6 in a pasta (4meals)

So that's 10 main meals and 14 days left in months, I'll most likely not use these up all this month.. the rest of the meals will be veggies stuff... I do have a lot of lentils etc in

I have 82.93 left of my budget after today's spending which I was kind of freaking out over, as it's less than £6 a day but working out said meals above, I think it's totally doable..

I also spent £4 odd in the fruit & veg shop but that got me milk, cheese, a leek (for the pie, have pastry frozen) and some apples - bargain!

As I really want to be as close as possible to my budget I'm going to have a look at what I need in the way of laundry, toiletries, pet food etc and go do the shop all in one day with a list!!!

ETA - I'm off to do a two week food plan also...

£5.35 gone this evening - a sudden dearth of bananas, apples & cream occurred, plus two large bags of baking potatoes for 18p each, which will save me buying any "old" potatoes tomorrow for our Sunday roast! The cream (a small vat) was needed for a cake that DD1's baked for her Dad to take to work tomorrow; traditionally someone takes a cake into the office every Friday and his is always a home-made effort, and much appreciated, as DD1 is a superb baker.

Great bargains at the butchers, Matody...

£54.46 spent in Tesco - got plenty of meat in the freezer now to last us until we move to our new home. Up to £130.88 now for August, which is great considering that we were spending in excess of £400 on two of us a few months ago!
