Miss sold laptop court advice
Comments
-
Provided PC World have sold you a machine with sufficient specification to meet the minimum system requirements for go pro studio, you really have no argument at all for mis-selling.
It looks as though the spec of the laptop you have meets the link posted by FosterDog. You cannot expect any sales person to know how every laptop will run every piece of software, other than them being able to tell you that it meets minimum specs.
If it still doesn't work, the problem is with the software provider who have inaccurately given minimum specifications.0 -
machine isn't faulty, there is no case
presumably go pro studios is the only application that takes 4 minutes to load before freezing and crashing

researching workarounds or fixes to bugs in gopro software should prove more productive than legal action

Nope you are incorrect As I've stated prevously I've tried more than just go pro studios but multiple editing programs all with the same issues. Once again I'll repeat myself surely if I've tried 3 different programmes all with the same issues you have to start looking at the laptop? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. No of course I wouldn't, however I would expect him to recommend a laptop which is capable of doing so which the one he did isn't. Their own repair technician said it was capable of doing so? Yet you believe it to be more realistic that 3 separate programmes made by 3 different companies will suffer from the same bugs. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. so you are saying all three editing programs take 4 minutes to load up, and when they do they immediately crash before you do anything, and every other program on the machine works perfectly and has done so for 6 months. There are at least 3 common denominators there.
you are applying far to much reliance on the technicians statement, which is not based on any understanding of how software, cpu's, memory, works.
software crashes are caused by errors in coding. The software you keep mentioning has page after page of moans on their support site about crashing, do you think they all have the same laptop?
If this was happening on my machine, I'd be googling for solutions, can't help you with the court advice.
Ah I see you point. I have simply presumed their repair technician would have known about issues like these, what causes them and how to fix them. Othwise why would he be working on my laptop? I simply believe what he had told me because A) I know nothing about computers and
be is a computer technician, why would i not take his word as gospel? And what he told me directly contradicts what I was told in store.
What you have said is partly true, yes these are the only programmes I have had on my computer to cause any problems and every other one has worked perfectly. No they all crash or freeze when during conversion or when I try yo edit. Go pro is the only one to take this long.
I don't accept your statement. I actually love the laptop, like i said this is the only issue I have had with it. So would be more than Happy to find a solution to the problem and avoid esculating this further. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I can only assume it was sent for repair as they believe it should have been able to do this task with out crashing or freezing. I will try Vegas thanks for the advice. When I try opening go pro studios which is what I'm trying to edit in it takes 4 minutes for it to open before freezing and then crashing. Surely this isn't normal.
@arcon5 6 months is relitively new for a laptop and I would expect it to work the same after a factory reset as the day a bought it so I don't see your point. As stated this was when I went on holiday and tried to edit for the first time. The fact it is 6 months old does not magically make it fit for purpose as made known. You ask for burden of proof about it being faulty.l? I don't ever remember saying it was faulty.
Further to this I never said it was clear cut, just came on here for advice as they weren't responding to any of my emails or letters. I'd be interested in why you have such strong opinions that I will loose my case though?
no thats not normal, get it checked by someone who knows what they are doing, probably either faulty RaM or a faulty HD.....0 -
Could it be that the files you are trying to load/edit is the problem? Can you try a file from another source with the software?0
-
go into windows movie maker
document every step you take, (file open cut copy paste, the size and type of the file you are loading, has it been copied to the hd, the times etc), and post exactly what happens (ie 'crashing' doesn't help), what is the message on screen, what is in the error log, the event log, how much disk space is free
repeat for the other two programs.
do the same thing with a 1 minute webcam videoDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
could it be the graphic card failing? does the laptop load from ssd? also software is reliant on having at least the minimum specs to perform, the better the spec the better the performance it would be like trying to play battlefield 4 on windows 95.
when you say crash does the pc crash to workbench or crash to bsod or crash and reboot itself? are all your drivers upto date? is it legit software or downloaded pirated stuff?
what time length is the video you are trying to edit? can you cut it first and edit smaller bits then join it all?0 -
What OS did it come installed with? You bought it just after Windows 10 came out so a lot of laptops were still preloaded with 8 at that time. What OS is it running now? Do you make sure all updates are done? Have you downloaded updated graphics card drivers direct from the GeForce website? They are releasing new drivers for your particular card at a rate of around 3 updates each month.
I didn't realise that the laptop you bought is one of the newer type convertible/flip laptops until I just looked it up to get the full spec list, it does take me back to my original theory about cooling being an issue, these laptops have limited space for cooling systems of any kind and video editing can make computers run very hot.
So I'll ask again considering you seem to have missed my questions first time. Do you use it on your lap or on a table/desk and do you use a cooling tray with it?0 -
Hi fosterdog, sorry I missed your question last time round. Not sure why. I appreciate your help though.
No I always use my laptop on my lap or on my sofa. I don't think I have ever actually used it on a table and never on a cooling tray. Also it was on windows 8 bit updated to 10 and I've set it so all updates are downloaded and installed automatically.
NotRichAtAll all my videos are lots of short clips say 5 seconds to 2 minutes. All I'm trying to do cut them and stich them together with a bit of music in the background. All the software is legal and nothing pirated.
bsod I will have to do this over the weekend but will let you know the results.
Rainbowgirl84 Will apart from my go pro I have a drone I could try the footage with that but its 2.7k so haven't bothered as I thought the laptop wouldnt be able to copeThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
