There have been stories (some on MSE) and some may be anecdotal about insurance companies raising premiums if you have been on a SAC. It is supposed to make you safer, cause fewer accidents so let's whack up your premium because we can. Not all insurance companies ask you about the course but if they do you have to declare it.

Only Admiral group insurance companies ask if you have been on a SAC. No insurance company has a way of finding out if you have been on a SAC unless you tell them.

I went on one when it still had a live drive on the road session with the instructor beside you - great fun & whilst an expensive driving lesson, better than the points for me.

In Lancashire the rules for who can be offered a SAC are quite strict - so I'd take the course now rather than hope 'for another time'.

I've never felt I was being talked down to, but then I've always accepted I was breaking the law to start with.

I'd rather take the course and sweat it out being talked down to than take the points.
Go with an open mind, and you might actually learn something.

    Well.....not quite.

Having 3 points on your licence isn't any reason not to be offered a course if you have a "next time".

There is no bar to going on a course just because you have points.

If your offence is eligible for a SAC you would be offered one!

No, but the "next time", he may be above the course threshold and have no option but the points.

It also depends on what value a future employer may put on having a 'clean' licence.
But if you're not driver based, nobody will care.

Exactly - that's why I said it depends - could be good - could be bad - or not matter at all.

Well someone needs to tell those taking the course, as they said you are only eligible on the first offence

    Then they were wrong.

You can go on one IF you were caught in an area that offers them, you were within the thresholds, AND you haven't been on one in the previous three years. But, even then, you do not HAVE to be offered one.

Perhaps it depends on the policy on the police force of the area, It was quite clear that you only get offered it if no previous speeding offence
