For English speakers though, there is always work.

This is more the case for those that either have an education from, or work experience in the UK/US/Australia. Same goes for French, German and probably Spanish too.

There's a huge push from many countries for export now, and the UK/US make up some of the biggest export markets. Government export financing (which is something I'm sorting out for my business now) is not just for the £1m+ transactions it was 10 years ago; my case isn't this small, but I have seen facilities agreed for less than £5000 in the last few years in the UK, and from what I've heard, it's not too dissimilar in other countries.

This in turn will (theoetically and in tiny numbers at first) push down unemployment, as through the work of the language speakers, there will be the core manufacuring/services jobs through export.

Maybe I am looking with rose tinted glasses, however if you arrive in my home country with a British education and even a little work experience in another market, there's a good chance you'll be able to find something decent very quickly. This is in a country where for locals, there is something in the region of 60% unemployment.

Horses for courses, you've been operating within the EU etc so see the benefits.
Many can't see past a summer holiday each year, which comes back to my comment about 'what you've never had,you never miss'.

That may be true, and the vast majority of what I do is outside the UK.

41% of expenses and disbursements went to British companies however, so there is a huge benefit to the British government to my being based in the UK.

Ultimately the 'Remain' campaign focused on the negative side of exit, instead of promoting positives to stay in.
They wheeled Obama onto mainscreen TV to tell us were bottom of the list etc etc for trade if we leave, there was too much of this and sadly it back fired.

Finally, we agree on something ;):D

That is very true, and that is where the campaign got it very wrong.

I did campaign for the remain side, the reasons for that you've probably worked out, but the biggest thing that probably was missed out was the ease of trade across international borders, especially for SMEs.

It's also important to remember that British nationals have the right to live and work anywhere in the EU as of now. I'm originally from a non-EU country, but the reality of most of the points I've made still stand, especially within Eastern Europe.

For now, we have a market of 440 million people to trade with virtually borderlessly, and thrown in with a week pound, this is where I'd expect the government to be going in the next few weeks, even if there is the full intention to go ahead with a BrExit.

    ...

It seems reasonable that the circles in which you mix influence the decisions you make.

Thinking about my own circles, my millennial relatives also look outside the UK...but it's Australia, then New Zealand, then the USA and Canada which have proven the biggest draws.

The local 6th form college ran 3 placements for students to experience something different, but again all 3 were outside Europe : India was the most popular destination, once again.

I think we should encourage these so called millennials to explore opportunities elsewhere, but it would feel restrictive to demand that this was just Europe.

    It is a valid point.

I think for doing what I do, the ease of market access to a huge population is the biggest driving factor to focusing on Europe as a continent, with some focus being outside of the EU, but still on the general European continent. On the other hand, Malta and Cyprus don't feature in the business plan at all for this year due to additional costs faced. Both are EU countries.

The answer to the question is remain or leave. I can tell you what I think and I can explain why. We have equally valid points (as does Undeterred), just approach the question of whether UK should remain in the EU fron a different viewpoint.

So what you're saying is that we made a decision to alter the course of our country and everyone's lives because people got their backs up?

I don't think that was the point being made at all.

I do, however (and did bring this up with the 'Remain' campaign at the time) state that the best thing to do would probably be to explain the benefits that the EU brings to the UK, rather than focus on potential negatives, that will depend largely on government policy rather than fact.

On the other hand, the 'Leave' campaign shouldn't have printed misleading statements on a bus, which would again be completely subject to government policy and probably won't happen.
