Sat 16th/Sun 17th July - What Small Debt Free Wannabe things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

Morning legomum thanks for the start. Must have been a night for dreaming. I had a really long detailed one but couldnt remember it on waking.

I am meeting a former colleague this morning for coffee to get her valuable input into my situation. So I will be paying for that but invaluable help.
Woke to a bidding war on some Pokemon cards im selling. Pokemon Go has a lot to answer for.
Cleared our fridge of leftovers last night for dinner. 2 lovely big salad plates with cold meat and cheeses. And a fresh fruit platter. So today we will start fresh again. Have bacon and onions and cheese just need a bag of pasta for a bake.
Planning to declutter an area and find 3 more items for sale over the course of the weekend.

    Have a great day all.

    Bob

P.S I boiled an egg for DDs tea but she didnt want it. Any suggestions on uses? None of us like egg sandwiches just to be doubly unhelpful.

    Morning all :D
Thanks for the start legomum and congrats on your win!
Bob - could you make your egg into a Scotch egg? I love eggs so I'd just eat them as was any day of the week.

Early start for me - Saturday is my new training day so I'm up and out at 7am. Keeps me on the straight and narrow. My lovely physio man has been talking to me equally lovely trainer about my dodgy knee and ankle and I've been given some very hard exercises to do that look easy but are actually destroying me. Apparently though I'll have the best backside in Britain by the end of this whole rehab thing. I have some lazy muscles there :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

So, busy day with a few things to do...
    :p check banking and PAD
    :p get ds to footy
    :p get ds to gymnastics
    :p post some parcels
:p visit my mam for a catch up and a free feed
:p mark 1 lowly exam paper
:p get the kids to do their share of housework
    :p continue with crochet
:p exercises and stretches for my poorly leg and bum muscles
:p budget remainder of month knowing dh can't contribute any more :(
    :p remain calm
:p fuel car ready for last 3 days at work next week :j
    :p catch up on here!
That's it - have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

Thanks for starting us off Lego, well done for reaching your target :T
Bob, you could have it cold with a salad, or make it into a starter with a bit of mayo & lettuce & cucumber, or maybe try making some sort of deviled egg?

    Today I have/will:-
    • All meals from stores
    • Create meal plan for week ahead
    • Create shopping list from this & then stick to it at Mr T's (got another voucher so it should be cheaper to go there, need to double check the date on it though)
    • Check free postcode lottery
    • Enter some more competitions, not that I'm having much luck :(
    • Check for any good freebies
    • Washing on eco setting using less than the recommended dose of washing liquid
    • Hang up to dry
    • Tidy up & clean the house a bit - determined to get into a good routine before Moomin arrives, although I'm sure it'll go to pot when he's here!
    • Check status of topcashback payout, if available then order steriliser from Amazon but will double check that's still the cheapest place first

Have a great, MSE day! x

First time poster, long time lurker on this thread and been thinking it's time to join in. Moving stuff from my old flat to the new one today hoping to get as much as possible done as I want to hand the keys back asap. Today's plans:
    * Pray that friend will help me build up new bed as I have no idea how to do it & will have to pay someone to do it if she can't
    * Resist buying a takeaway
    * Set up some kind of inventory for things in freezer
    * Make only two trips to the new flat as I'm getting a van tomorrow so no need for endless trips today
    * Write list of things to buy at Ikea tomorrow so I don't end up buying things I don't need
    * Change address on home and car insurance policies and hope they don't go up! - Car insurance is going up by £24.25  and home insurance is a lot more expensive than I thought. I don't have much time today but these will be getting looked at asap!

Hope everyone has a great day!

  • Hello everyone ;) My husband is on night shift this weekend and I'm 6 months pregnant so I'm absolutely relishing in the fact I've got nothing planned!

    Today I will:

    - make a tray of mac&cheese which will last us today and tomorrow. Already got all the ingredients except for chorizo, which I chop up and add in. Try it!

    - Choose a box in the garage full of books to sell on the internet. They are mostly medical textbooks so hopefully I'll get about £5 each for them.

    - Plan the weeks meals and go shopping tomorrow.
DFW beginning 24/06/16 - current balances as of 28/07/16 are:
    £1320 / £1520 Paypal Credit
    £5413 / £6913 BarclayCard
    Total: £6733 / £8433 Hopeful DFD - October 2016!
    Grocery Challenge August: £56 / £375

    Afternoon Campers,
Lots of mse effort going on here today:
*NSD. Mr f has had to work so I don't have the car.
    *Did mid-month budget reconciliation.
*Updated grocery budget which was all over the place.
    *Paid CC in full.
*Transferred knitting money to Car Fund.
    *Entered a competition.
*Did 4 x supermarket prize draw feedback.
    *Updated energy meter readings spreadsheet.
*Did an Ipsos survey - only about another 300 points needed for next voucher.
*Checked loan terms, esp rules regarding making early partial repayments as this is a deal breaker for us.
*Worked through various budget models to look at implications of having a loan after so long without any debt except for our mortgage.
*Re-listed ebay items while on free listings.
    *Leftovers for lunch.
*Tweaked tonight's meal to use up some potatoes which are starting to sprout.
*Finished next week's meal plans & shopping list.
    Still to do........
    *Water veggie garden.
    *Knit more of Mum's present.
    *Pick more sweet peas.
*Maybe put a cheap overnight wash on IF tomorrow's forecast looks dry for pegging out.
Have a good weekend all. Keep your hands on your pence. We will soon be raising a loan & so I will soon be doing a money audit to look at small 'leakages' which have been creeping in lately.

Oh Bob - Re that wasted egg. Chop it & add to a fish pie. I always add one. Or, harboil a few more & make egg masala. Nice cheap curry recipe. Madhur Jaffrey, I think. Or make eggs in cheese sauce....the 1st meal I learned to cook in school cookery lessons, aged 11, lol.

    Afternoon all :)
Thanks for starting the thread Legomum :)
    So far today:
    Posted an ebay parcel
Sold another 2 items, only small bits, but it all helps, right? :)
Shopping at Mr S, remembered to use vouchers and bring back some of their wine boxes for my ebay sales :)
Found a really nice Monsoon top in one of the charity shops for £2 :T
Picked French beans and courgettes, and watered everything that needed it :)
Bit of paperwork for business, involving a pile of receipts that are no longer all over the dresser :)
Ditched home insurance company as I found a quote over £70 cheaper, and it is with the company I insure my car with (I have had good customer service from them, too) :D

Off to a 90th birthday party this evening, in a village I haven't been to before :) Before that I must:

    Walk dog
Put a charity donation in an envelope (friend doesn't want presents, but if people want to give something, donations to his favourite charity are welcome) :)
Write and post congratulations cards to 2 small grand daughters who have had super school reports, will pop some spending money in them for their upcoming holiday. Got 69p cards with dogs on from the cheap shop this morning (as they will have to be from pup as well as OH and I) :)

Hope everyone has a nice Saturday evening :)

    Hi all

Been working at job no. 2 most of the day with an welcome interruption from some friends who were passing. Why do people call when the house is messy?

Sent DH and DS1 off to Li@l with the list. DS1 is very good at shopping, I would almost trust him to do it on his own. They did well, I said they had to do it for under £50 and they spent £49.50.

Off to a big party tonight, an annual BBQ some old family friends do, it will be a big gathering and the kids love it. I will be driving so will probably be ready for home at 10pm!!!

Need to feed everyone first (DS1 came home with more than enough alcohol for tonight so I want him to have some tea) and walk the dog. Right, switching the laptop off now. Enjoy what's left of Saturday everyone x
