Ryanair won't give you the money, Santander won't either, what are you expecting from Trading Standards?

It was suggested by Santander; I don't know what they could do if I contacted them, that's why I asked the question on here.
  • It is 120 days according to the letter I received from the Nationwide. However, I'm pretty confident they won't be trying to claim the money back. I got my chargeback in the first week of August which was nearly three months ago now so just have to wait another month or so until the money is officially refunded to keep. Fingers crossed...
  • Thanks for sharing. On that basis my refund is all good and LCH won't be contesting it. However, I shall keep the champagne on ice until Dec 6th just to be on the (very) safe side
  • It CAN take up to 120 days but it's only 45 normally.
  • Hi,

I received my money back into my account from HSBC on 30th August. Received a letter yesterday (dated 28th October) saying it would be re-debited on the 4th November as they would not honor the chargeback claim due to the holiday being booked through an intermediary (i.e lowcost holidays) as there was no contract with the hotel.

Anyone else had a similar response from HSBC?

OK, that's not right if you claimed using chargeback. Section 75 has an intermediary clause which can scupper a hotel only booking, but chargeback is for non receipt of goods. I think a polite chat pointing out this out may be in order.

And bitter experience with HSBC says raise it as a complaint else they will ignore you. Actually they also ignore complaints especially if you make them in branch, but that's probably a whole other forum.

If they say that's final, go to the ombudsman, I am pretty sure from what you've said they've got it wrong and at least you can get a final ruling either way.

    Hi
I'm new to the forums but wondered if anyone could give me some advice. I've made a claim under Section 75 to reclaim the money I paid to Lowcostholidays on my Santander credit card. I booked a flight and hotel together, costing £1,900. They've refunded me the cost of the hotel but not the flights.

The explanation I've been given is that the flights could still be used as it wasn't Ryanair that went into liquidation. I've tried explaining that I couldn't use the flights as I didn't have the hotel but that hasn't made a difference. Santander have advised me to go to Trading Sandards but I don't understand why they're not refunding me the whole cost of the holiday.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Try the Financial Ombudsmen Service. It's free and you'll get an independent adjudication at least. LCH has been a difficult one as a lot of the flights were still available for use. As you claimed using Section 75 rather than chargeback it could be paid back as an inconsequential loss if you can prove you couldn't afford the increased accommodation cost at short notice. Nothing to lose by trying.
  • Thanks for your reply and advice!
