Thjat's a good result, was your booking for flights & hotel or just a hotel?

My booking was hotel only and I had paid £600 deposit which I received back onto my card .

Thanks, I also booked hotel only and paid the deposit of £500 on my credit card - ironically for the 'protection' it offered but it seems section 75 may not work due to lowcostholidays acting as agent. I've sent an email requesting my case be dealt with under sec 75 in the hope I can recoup the entire cost (we had to pay the hotel again while we were on holiday).

That's good to hear that a chargeback may be possible if sec 75 fails though, I paid the rest on a Natwest debit card so will be interesting to see what their reaction to chargebacks is.
  • Unbelieveable today from Sainsburys bank.

Phoned for an update as they promised one within 10 days, it was day 11. young lady read the notes could see the dispute and chargeback request reference, she phoned through to disputes. It somehow hadnt reached the actual disputes team due to some error on sainsburys own part!!

absolutely fuming with them, as ive spoken to them 2 or 3 times during this time and always assured it was being dealt with!

They gave me an email address to send through the details direct.

    Incompetence beyond belief

I put in a chargeback request with Natwest online on Sunday, not heard anything yet from them.

There is a very interesting read here from the Law Commission on page 62 onwards on the chargeback process when a supplier goes bust

Mine went off to NatWest on the 19th..nothing yet.
Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
  • I paid LCH £2551.65 for a 2 week break in mexico in jan 2017 with the Royal Haciendas. When I found out about the bankrupt I contacted them to see if they had been paid and they hadn't I said to them that I wanted to keep the booking and checked the amount owing, which was the same as I had paid LCH. I Contacted my bank re charge back and they asked for confirmation nothing had been paid. I rang mexico again and spoke to someone and said that I did want to keep the reservation they said they couldn't wait if the charge back would take too long to process, so I said that I would get back to them after I had spoken to the bank. the following day I chated to them online to ask what I needed to do re payment. They told me to go to the reservations team, so I sent an email, I got a response saying the hotel had cancelled all bookings and if I wanted to rebook to let them know and they had a special rate for LCH customers. The special rate turned out to be almost $1000 more than the original booking, this is $400 dollars less than the current rate so they are saying that they wont honour the booking. Anyone got any advice as my flights are already booked and paid for.

That is a fascinating read. Thank you.
Merchant acquirers will increase the amount of collateral held back if the retailer appears to be experiencing financial difficulties. When the airline Flyglobespan entered administration, its merchant acquirer was holding £35 million of collateral.

Feeling a little bit more confident after reading the paper posted by smituk. It clears a lot of the fog. Looks like the responsibility for chargeback payments lies with the merchant acquirer (MA). There's also some examples of some recent big retail collapses: mfi, comet, flyglobespan. The paper also mentions that the collateral built up by the MA is quite often much bigger than the actual chargeback claims. Let's hope that the MA have been doing their job and that's true this time too.
