Landlord is not releasing deposit now under any circumstances. I've already asked and explained the situation. Nothing that can be done there. To be fair, even if they wanted to it's not like the deposit is in their personal bank account, they have to go through the Tenancy Deposit Scheme people.

mine refunded, but they were an agency not a private landlord don't know whether that's any different. Got a chq from the agency.

OP could you get a salary advance from the job you are due to start? It used to be possible when people were moving but usually to different parts of the country.

Is there an option to pay the deposit by credit card?

How is your very atypical experience of any help to the OP?

ETA: To echo Pixie's wise comment: Please stop confusing the issue!
  • I tried that and though they were pleasant about it sort of, they won't do it.
  • No, never had any form of annual service, no certificates.

So is it a gas boiler, or not?[/B]

(Sorry, meant to quote your last post, not the one above; oops).
  • Yes it is, why do you ask?

Yes I could probably pay for the deposit via credit card but I do not have a credit card. But I don't have one. I've applied for some, even those that are meant to be really easy to get, and I've been turned down. I really have spent the past weeks trying actually everything.

LovingPerson, please can you confirm whether it is a gas boiler you're talking about?

If so, can you then also tell us whether your LL arranged an annual inspection, after which you were given a gas safety certificate to add to your tenancy documents (a new one each year)?

Yes it is, why do you ask?

:j Because your LL has broken an important Law, that's why!
Which gives you a lever. Quite a Big Lever..

I've got to go out now, but hopefully one of our knowledgeable stalwarts will be along shortly to explain how you could use this to your advantage. Don't worry, it all looks much more hopeful for getting back your deposit intact now, and in time to pass on to your new LL.

Because your landlord has a legal obligation to provide a gas safety certificate.

Assuming none took place there's your leverage to get the deposit back in full. And early i'd say.
