Benefit Fraud

Rather than the people who report things being bitter and envious, I think people who don't probably have lower moral standards and can see themselves doing the things the fraudsters/criminals are doing.
Exactly what I was going to write. I can't see why they would try and justify it otherwise?
Bitter and envious at someone not having to work as hard as they do? It's not a case of NOT having to work, but rather these scroungers choose not to....big difference.0 -
I watched the Benefits programme last night - no idea why I do this to myself as it raises my blood pressure every time... The chap who had fallen over, gleefully trying to claim money for injuries that he didn't even know he had! To my eyes there was no reason why he could not work, he seemed perfectly fit, if somewhat overweight, to me. I know that these programmes are made deliberately to annoy us, but they never show the people who really need benefits through no fault of their own.
I wonder how many would be scurrying off to work if benefits had an end date?0 -
I was reported for benefit fraud once. Got a letter saying an investigator was coming to my house on Thursday, I called and said to the person who answered that I was working that day and taxi already booked etc. Person put me through to the investigator who asked about the taxi (access to work so couldn't just rearrange and it was already Tuesday). Investigator said "oh, so you work" I explained I work, DLA, waiting for heart transplant etc. Investigator asked if anything happened recently with relationships, had I fallen out with anyone or anything like that, oh I'd recently split up from my boyfriend of 5 years who had rekindled a relationship with his ex behind my back for almost a year. Investigator said "well I'm on holiday next week so you'll hear from me after that" and I never heard anything again and that was about 8 years ago.0

If you are a person who won't/don't/can't support the Authorities in trying to deal with wrongdoing, who do you call when your teenager strops off out at midnight after a family row or when your car is stolen or your house broken into?
Not the Police, surely.....?0 -

Not the Police, surely.....?if the police or HMRC are interested they can do they legwork on finding out themselves.
No, not the Police - they have to find out for themselves that the crime has been committed :rotfl:0 -
That's just rubbish, If this lady is getting her rent paid at £800 per month plus Income Support at 600 per month, then she is defrauding the system out of £1400 per month. If this has been going on for 3 years then the total is £50400.
If she stole that from a bank or from yourself I bet you would report it.0 -

It's likely to be a proportion thereof, but yes0 -
She told me she gets the max HB for her size property, so £193 a week.
So she has to pay about £80 a month0 -
Has anything happened on this since you reported it to the council?0

When I phoned the council they said they do not investigate benefit fraud anymore.
They told me to ring DWP, which I did, who would then get in contact with the council if there was housing benefit fraud.
Must have been a good couple of weeks ago now and as far as I know nothing has happened yet, but I guess they have loads of cases to go through.
Dont know whether to give it a few months and call again or just leave it now0
