My thoughts too. Also get the working drawings produced by the Structural Engineer, then check out their accreditation, and insurance details.

It is vital you attend any meeting between the contractors and the Building Inspector. Take business cards from all present, take notes, produce a report then circulate this to all concerned. If you are out of your comfort zone here then seek help.

I am certain you really do not understand who, or what, you are up against.

Spell it out clearly for him then.
  • Wow I only joined to ask for some advice but FURTZ you really seem to know your stuff and I've so many questions but MY situation is kinda personal, any chance you could give me some one to one advice so I don't have to put it all out there also its really long to explain HAHA.

I would apologise if I felt an apology was called for.

You are admitting you did not explain to Sean what work was to be undertaken. You are also saying that a Stuctural Engineer was called in, yet Sean appears to have no drawings, no calculations and perhaps no contact details.

It appears there was no written contract, no sign off of the works by you and pressure was applied to Sean for a quick payment.

You have totally disregarded Buildings Regulations so a thorough inspection is now going to be undertaken.

You have now agreed to pay for £600 for an inspection and slashed the bill by £800. An admission of guilt, or are your margins so great that you can knock such sums off with ease?

Coming onto your post quoted above, you cannot form a sentence with correct grammar, you cannot recognise spell checking, and you cannot be bothered to read Forum Rules.

Your website is flawed and you give no contact details for any personnel.

You may be the best contractors in the world, but your track record on this Topic shouts "Cowboys" loud and clear.

I really do not need to state the "bleedin obvious". Predictably, two posts came through from Newbies representing the loft company. Fair enough if they were civil, and well composed. They were not! Both have been deleted by the MSE Team.

I would make it crystal clear - I did not seek the deletion. On the contrary, I would have preferred both posts to have remained on the Forum. Both posts are crystal clear on the type of contractor OP is dealing with. My professional advice to all Forum users to to be extra vigilant, and extra cautious, should they have cause to deal with this company.

This leaves the unknown. At the same time another Newbie popped up, called "Dragonfly2016". I suggest folks read into this what they wish. But if Dragonfly is genuine, why not post in a decent manner, with decent sentence structure, and decent grammar?

So why did you say this?

Perhaps the penny has not dropped for you! The deleted posts made it clear what type of company OP was up against.

To spell out a bit, without checking all the previous posts, OP is in Middlesborough(?) and wanted a loft altered. A trusted local builder could have been employed, with accreditation, with references and with all levels of competence. Instead OP chose a company to travel up from Leeds. Their specialism is three fold - cleaning drains, cleaning kitchens and altering roofs. A strange combination, but that is life. You read into this what you wish.

One of the ex Directors has been involved with 21 companies. Again you read into this what you wish.

I now receive intimidating posts from this company. Indeed some might consider the posts threatening. Again you read into this what you wish.

Now have I successfully hinted at the "bleedin obvious"?

The penny dropped on day one.

You weren't threatened in that post, he simply asked you to speak to him instead of hiding behind your keyboard.

Why not give him a call?

Stop it, silver surfer. You're not doing anything except antagonising now. It's not helpful at all and bizarrely, you're starting to look like you're affiliated to the company.

I think Furts has been most helpful, forthright and clear. He has no need to enter into debate with the company. It helps no one, except the MD's ego, perhaps.

I'd go as far as suggesting you remove your last post.

OP posted with a concern. The vast majority of replies have tried to offer genuine help. A minority of idiots did get involved but fortunately OP did not follow the advise coming from that direction.

My posts are aimed at helping OP. I fail to see how I can help further by phoning the mobile number you quote. Of course, if this number was genuine, courteous and helpful, it would be accompanied by a name. Predictably with this loft company no name has been given.

Would I learn anything by phoning the number? My intuition is no I would not. You might learn something, so I invite you to phone it and report back to the forum with your findings. This would show that you are a sincere poster, who wishes to help fellow consumers.
