OK. Firstly I have just had a call from their managing director who was absolutely great. Best customer service I've ever had. He explained everything to me.
My bad for being a bit paranoid about my loft caving in by reading things online!
They are coming out tomorrow with full certification for me and a structural engineer report free of charge to show me that the beams they removed were in fact definitely not load bearing.
They don't want me to take their word on it so they are also paying free of charge to get building control out for me to show me it is structurally sound.
Like I said in previous posts I never thought they were a bad company everything seemed legit and it is. Just slight miscommunication on my part and now that I've spoke to their MD everything sounds a lot clearer!
Building control is coming out in a couple of days to do a full inspection and sign it off for me free of charge.
Honestly couldn't find a better company.
I'll update back here once I have the inspection complete.0 -
Very good if him to call you, how come its been escalated all the way up to me?0
-
They just seem very genuine and they could tell that I was very confused about what they were doing and with building control etc etc and I wasn't fully informed about the structural things.
They stand by that they do not need building control approval for the work as it's definitely not load bearing which I believe them on as they have even paid for a building control inspection anyone for me at their cost just to put my mind at rest. They obviously want to make sure they always have happy customers in the end. There was just a bit of confusion on my end from talking to different people I think.
Due to the confusion they have even knocked nearly 800 quid off as I have obviously gotten wrong information0 -

Sorry for the unhelpful news, but everything you have posted, including the response from the MD, plus a cursory glance at the Web pages says this company tried to stitch you up. Any sweeteners now are just a bribe taken out of their original over price for the job.
I maintain this company is a bunch of cowboys. However, your concern is to get a satisfactory job. It is probable that this forum has ensured you will now receive this.
Remember your current position with a Building Inspector comes via this Forum. You had doubts, and be honest with yourself here, but you were posting the wrong question to start with!0 -
Well so far it seems I've just had problems with communication that's all cleared up now. I'll let you know when building control come out from the council.
I may have just been paranoid in regards to roof caving in on my family. Can't be too safe. But since I've had a full explanation of load on my roof and how they calculated it using TRADA.
Don't think they would pay for a building control inspection if it wasn't up to scratch! Everything is ok now though. As soon as building control give me an update I'll let you guys know what's happened
Cheers for the advice from everyone I think I may have just jumped the gun0 -
Make sure you are there when building control visit so that you can tell them which parts of the roof have been removed.0

... and make sure it is, actually, a Buildings Control Officer from the Council, when they attend.
Call me paranoid, call me what you will....0 -

My thoughts too. Also get the working drawings produced by the Structural Engineer, then check out their accreditation, and insurance details.
It is vital you attend any meeting between the contractors and the Building Inspector. Take business cards from all present, take notes, produce a report then circulate this to all concerned. If you are out of your comfort zone here then seek help.
I am certain you really do not understand who, or what, you are up against.0
