Interesting to read about the German situation.
I often wonder what stocks people have in when I shop near Christmas and see people frantically rushing round throwing anything in their trolley when the shops are only shut for one day. Siege mentality at its worst and I bet most gets thrown away in the new year.
Not been in recently as holiday then bathroom refit, fell of groyne while on holiday then last week fell over backwards while roller skating and split head needing stitches. (Guess you can't prep for clumsiness or stupidity)
Hope everyone is as well as can be.SPC~12 ot 124

Ouch Mrs M, hope it's not too sore now. Head wounds do bleed a LOT don't they?It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

If you want to carry more, can you carry it in a "pocket" slung round your neck, or velcroed around an arm, leg, whatever?0

The suitable amount depends on your shopping habits and needs. I'm a cash kind-a-girl! I draw a couple of hundred out at a time if I'm facing a big bill - ie vets - and I generally have around £50 on me.
This went a bit pear shaped recently when I had been to the launderette and not put the top back on the conditioner properly. It was in the same bag as my wallet. All notes now rinsed, dried and nicely fragrant :rotfl:
And the cash card still works!0 -

TBH I didn't know they'd got rid of military service - they had it when I was an au pair there a few years ago:D
The Swiss definitely still have it. And they all take their guns home with them afterwards. You don't want to mess with themIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
And they have all those dinky folding knives, too!
When various European states were fighting on the continent a few hundred years ago, if you wanted crack archers, you hired the English or Welsh and if you wanted crack infantry troops, you hired the Swiss.
I wouldn't want to pick a fight with 'em, they could crack you a nasty welt with a cow bell then stick a T0blerone where the edelweiss don't shine.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

It depends - are you careless with money (holes in pockets?
). Do you travel in a lot of dodgy areas where mugging is likely? If you want to carry more, can you carry it in a "pocket" slung round your neck, or velcroed around an arm, leg, whatever? Think travel accessories ... As for how much is suitable, suitable what for? Travelling home? Is that a train ticket or a taxi? A snack? A PAYG phone to put you in contact with the world again?
Let us know - its always interesting to understand people's thought processes.
I guess I am in a different situation to most. I work from home and tend to use a debit card for shopping. The only cash I need is to pay the window cleaner once a month and pay for purchases at the car boot sale on Sunday. Occasional charity donations, etc. If it came to it that I couldn't get access to money in my bank I wouldn't starve for quite a long time as long as electricity supplies remained intact. I guess clean windows would be a thing of the past and car boots might not operate if it was terrorist activity. If on the other hand the banks went under then who knows! I can afford to have a fair bit of cash in the house as it is pretty unproductive in my current account, but I still can't foresee the necessity - yet.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

All this talk of carrying cash and how much too is brill. Normally I will only deal in cash, I take out £200 a week and then thats it, buttttt thats not going to be a problem any more.
As I have just come into some money yippeee :j
A long lost relative died in 2002 and has left me £6.8 Million Pounds!!!
Well that is what the solicitor has said in my email, apparently he died with no know relatives, and this ' solicitor' has been trying to look for some one to pass the money onto. And he PICKED ME.
He chose me because our surname are similar, as in White and Smith :rotfl:
I feel so happy I can't wait to return the email with all my details.
I'm sorry but had to share the joy :beer:0 -
That's funny, jim-jim, £6.8 million is exactly what that kind Nigerian General's wife is wanting to split with me if I'll just give her my bank account details to share it into!
Think I've just lost touch with reality though; the garage rang today to say that OH's car hadn't passed the MoT first time & needed about £300 of work. "Do you want us to do it?" the mechanic asked, doubtfully. Well, yes, please! It's a brilliant car, never let us down, very adaptable, lots of room & cheap to run. "Oh!" he said, surprised. "It's just that most people round here, when the car's more than 5 years old and starts to cost money, they just say, don't bother, new car time!"
Do people really just get rid of decent cars that just need £300 of work done? Oh dear!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0
