If there were, d'you think they'd own up? You can have your prepper cap badge and sash confiscated for that, you know.

Looks like Baldrick needs to come up with another cunning planIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Karmacat I agree 10 days is more realistic than three. I cut back quite a bit on the amount I kept in stock when I retired because I go for a walk most days and could pick stuff up. But in the winter I ramp it up a bit so I don't have to go out if it's icy. Since my accident earlier this year I'm very nervous about falling so I'm now trying to have more in so I don't have to go down to the local shop if the pavements are slippery with wet leaves. With all the cutbacks, we don't get our pavements cleared very often/at all and when you get rain on top of fallen leaves they turn into a greasy mulch very quickly.
One week to go for you! Are you getting demob happy?:snow_laug:coffee::dance:
:bdaycake: I brought cake tooThe Automatic Earth is pointing out that the directive is also suggesting that people should hold cash Quote...
"Saw this on Reuters and other sites, but they all left out the need to store cash, for some reason, which is in the original directive. So I ran the article through Google Translate and corrected it a little.
A government advising people to store cash is not a minor point, I would think. Not in the days of plastic and a war on cash."

I'm absolutely fascinated that the German government is saying this. Can you imagine how that reads to the non-prepper section of their population? And how that would play out here in the UK?
We'd just shrug and get on with our lives but a lot of people would be shocked and disbelieving.
Quite recently, I saw an article enumerating the amount of cash which is apparently being hoarded by the UK population and currently held in the Banques de Mattress, figures from the Bank of England. Staggering. The tone was one of mild disapproval, no pats on the back for preparedness there.
If we do have a banking crisis in the UK, and I honestly think it's a matter of when not if, there will be a heckuva shock to the under 25s. I see them out and about, paying 50p extra per transaction in small shops to buy a portion of chips etc etc. Lots of them don't carry any cash at all, not even a tenner, and are going to be up a certain creek without a paddle when the card payment system falls over.
Us older f@arts with our cash and our tins of food will be faring somewhat better.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I read that article too GQ, the bank sounded dead miffed that people have the cheek to actually hang onto their own money -whatever is the world coming to! And they lose out on business, we canny have that can we!0

If and when it ever becomes an actual requirement I'm sure your SIL would do the necessary - if you're living in Germany I don't suppose you veer too far from the rules
Very trueSIL isn't German but has lived there for many years, so is used to German ways and sticking to the rules. DB, on the other hand, gets very irritated by it all.

I am extremely well prepared in most areas although water stocks might be a little low. As to cash - I rarely have more than £20 about my person for fear of losing it or being mugged. What do you think would be a suitable amount?Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

). Do you travel in a lot of dodgy areas where mugging is likely? If you want to carry more, can you carry it in a "pocket" slung round your neck, or velcroed around an arm, leg, whatever? Think travel accessories ... As for how much is suitable, suitable what for? Travelling home? Is that a train ticket or a taxi? A snack? A PAYG phone to put you in contact with the world again?
Let us know - its always interesting to understand people's thought processes.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Miffed is an excellent description of the tone of it, I think. Very peeved.
I smiled at the time and thought I've got mine. Can't see a lot of point of keeping much money in the bank, interest is so pitiful that they'll be re-naming it boringness any day now.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
