Actually I was musing in the bath this morning that this closure of the Northern Ireland power stations ordered by the pan-Irish national grid might be a conspiracy to gain concessions in Brexit or to incorporate Northern Ireland in the Republic:
Once Northern Ireland had no power of its own, it would only require a bombing of the link to Scotland to hold NI to ransom:
'Okay, well you either join the Irish Republic, or no electricity for you.'
A cynical person might think this was the reason for pan-Irish grid in the first place, the supply bids that were mysteriously rejected, and eventually the closure of indigenous generation.
An even more cynical person might wonder if the UK government even had a hand in this.0 -
I subscribe to the notion that 'there's no smoke without fire'. If there's any suggestion of anything it's because someone has something to gain, or indeed, hide!
A slight water issue here. The water has been turned off by DH, he's onto it (oh I do hope as he's a lot of Jack's but not a plumber) and it should be fixed by this evening. We have water. Bottles of the stuff! Cuppa tea anyone?0 -

They seem to breed 'em pretty tough here.
I was watching with astonishment the other day when there was someone going out and sitting having coffee outside a cafe in some particularly bad weather.
Southerner Me couldnt comprehend why.....as I was looking at the weather whilst mentally counting out the calendar till spring...and nothing on earth would have induced me to do more than the bare minimum outdoors that day.
You know your face is registering what you feel about the weather - when on a nice day (our Southern definition of nice - blue skies/calm/dry/warm to hot) a total stranger of a woman looked at my face as we walked past each other in the street (probably the sheer expression of relief on it LOL) and instantly identified me as a fellow Southerner and held her hands/face to the sky and beamed broadly with relief too and goes "Now THIS is what I mean by 'a nice day' " and we both stood there agreeing with each other...0 -

If it's not within the mind set and comprehension of individuals to understand how and why it COULD happen then why read along on the PREPPING THREAD in the first place? No one HAS to prep, it's purely a personal choice and one I made many years ago back in the early 1960s during the Cuba crisis as I realised that we the populace are only necessary to politician and those in power as a means to put them in power in the first place, our lives are mere incidentals to most of them and once in power we are expendable and possibly seen as a nuisance. If I don't make preparation and provision for us WHO WILL??? no one is forced to believe that this world will ever be anything but coming up roses and if you don't believe things might change then don't read here!

Not with me, no. I can see from your join date and post count that you're a long term member here on mse, but I think you're posting a bit like a troll, actually. Posts like yours don't "touch a nerve" for me, they're just tiresome to have to scroll past. I'm not keen on you mocking a stalwart of the thread either.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
