This morning my living room stinks presumably from poisoned dead rat under the floor. Anyone know how long the stink will last? The guy used Vertox poison if that makes any difference.

Is the floor one of floorboards (or - a worse case analysis - chipboard pieces)?

Would imagine it's a pretty easy DIY job to hoick up likeliest section of floor and haul out anything that "shouldnt be there" - eg ratty?

Wouldnt imagine one would smell ratty through the darn concrete floors like I have...now that distinctly would be a problem...

In that position - I'd be checking whether I could manage it myself (and I'm b*y useless at DIY). Failing that - find a tradesperson and hint at an extra "note or two" handed over if they turn up promptly for it.

    Thanks Money,

It's floorboards, but with laminate flooring laid across it... so a real sod to get up! :(

Ah right - laminate. Suitable tradesperson and lob 'em a tip then imo.
  • I am afraid that you are going to need to get the floorboards up. We had a dead rat under the floor at a place where I worked, a beautiful old building in a park but we did get vermin. The stench from our dead rat was appalling, unbearable and rats are big, take a while to decompose. The pest man came and wanted us all to have a look, weall said thank you so much but no.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • omg I am so flipping lucky, I have got that laptop running again, it was the adaptor at the laptop end, I am being so careful with the new cord, I am going to tape a flat stick on it so it doesn`t keep bending. So I have printed off the full email address book and backed up m/s money and have done as much uninstalling as I dare, easy stuff like trusteer and sansa and mozilla thunderbird (e mails) etc. Deleted all the carp I didn`t need on the desktop and every bookmark and folder.

I am just doing the cccleaner scan, restarting and then disconnecting it from the net and all those troublesome windows and firefox updates. This computer is going upstairs to my sewing room and will only be used for my home accounts and cd/dvd playing with a back up for my camera and printer but mainly it will stay offline. Being without m/s money was truly scary, I tried money and money sunset on windows 10, doesn`t work. The programme enables forward planning and to see at a glance what bills have to be paid and all my incomings for however far ahead I want

V pleased to hear that good news kittie :T
  • It looks so clean ivyleaf, after the good internal clean with compressed air and I took the screen film off, looks like a new laptop. Its confidence giving tbh. Upside is that I got rid of all those e mails and am starting from scratch, so am unsubscribing and deleting as I get new ones in to my new bought laptop. Taking off all that carp from the old one has made it boot up so fast and it is running very quiet, with a clean fan

Thank goodness for getting back into m/s money, it has made me scrutinise any cash excesses so I can put money into visa, to bring that back to zero before bill date. To do that I have eg cancelled a few things added to my veg box delivery, stuff I don`t need and would put weight on anyway, I tend to move cash from current to visa, when available. What money does do is make me very aware of due bills and I have now input all outgoings and incomings to the end of february and at no stage, in my current account, is there a minus balance and I can see the points at which I can safely transfer some money into visa. Money works well on windows 7 and it also worked well on vista and xp, I think the cd I use is m/s works 2004
  • I have just been dumping compost in my allotment bin, by car and passed a couple, my age, both got heart troubles and on pills. Walking as though they need to, to stay fit, 1.5 degrees, nothing over their mouth and nose. Lack of common sense and too much media stuff saying to walk. There are other ways rather than walking in icy weather and on slippy ground

That is very silly! More likely to drop dead with the cold or break a hip on the ice! It is very very cold here, the snow that fell has frozen hard and everything is iced up, even the wee river has ice from both banks and only one clear bit in the middle for the current. Busy feeding the wee birds :)
