Sure thing mar. ....It's basically Delia's recipe.
Dice a couple of potatoes and an onion and as many leeks as you want to use up, and sweat them in a couple of ounces of butter, (marg in my case) with a bit of salt and pepper for about 15 minutes.
Add 1/2 pint milk and 1x 1/2pint of chicken or veg stock if you have it, water if you haven't..
Bring to boil and simmer for about 20 minutes. Careful here - it boils over if not watched, I only partially cover with a lid.
BLITZ.
I think Delia then swirls with cream and scatters with chives but that's a bit fanciful for me. I might make the effort if it's for someone I wish to impress, otherwise, "Really?"
The amount of veg depends on what I want to use up. I seem to have a plethora of onions so 2 or 3 might go in, likewise leeks, I have about 3 manky ones but they are very large.
I think Delia says 2 potatoes but I have several small ones that are too tiny for jackets so mine today will be 4 or 5.
I don't think I will ever take up writing cook books. My recipes are far too vague. Good luck.I believe that friends are quiet angels

D'you know? When I started my treatise on leek and potato soup, I could have sworn that mar had asked for the recipe. I can find no evidence of that now. Senility is taking over.I believe that friends are quiet angels

I have just been dumping compost in my allotment bin, by car and passed a couple, my age, both got heart troubles and on pills. Walking as though they need to, to stay fit, 1.5 degrees, nothing over their mouth and nose. Lack of common sense and too much media stuff saying to walk. There are other ways rather than walking in icy weather and on slippy ground
Well personally I avoid slippy ground if its possible to. So - yep...they could stay indoors and do, for instance, a YouTube exercise video (lots of choice up there) if it's walking for walking's sake (rather than having to get A to B for a reason so to say).
It may be that they don't have "something over their nose and mouth" because they're from an area where one doesnt have to? So - even though they've moved = they still don't? As someone that has moved to elsewhere in the country I can understand that - I still don't take an umbrella out with me automatically/usually forget gloves/never wear a hat/etc/etc - because I'm not used to it and don't even think of it (and I know I'm forgetting because I don't want to do so). Yep....sitting here windblown again today (as I've already been out) and hands need warming up (as I forgot a pair of gloves again). So maybe they're the same?0 -
I did ask. Only not in here
:D:D Many thanks Monna!

I love all the linkages here on mse
Hmm, prepping ... this year, I inherited the chest of drawers I had as a teenager - it's meant, amongst many other things, that my "light and heat" preps are siphoned from the bottom of the wardrobe to a drawer on their own. With the result that I can use the boots and shoes in the wardrobe *and* I can see what I actually have as "light and heat" preps. Win-win.
This morning, I was checking where the sunlight is; I face east, so for a while in the early morning, that side is square on, across a rec. ground, to sunshine. When it moves round, there's another semi quite close by, but I've checked and I have a small window on the first floor that gets light unobstructed by the semi (except for it's chimney). So when I've finished sorting everything after the building work and the influx from the inheritance, I'm going to fish out my Anker solar panel thingy and start charging my phone from it, day to day.
I also just managed to lag my outside tap before the frost froze it upthere were icicles hanging from it, but it kept flowing, and now it's all toasty

That's a lot of work for feeding birds.0 -
not venturing far at all in icy weather, thank you! Don't fancy a fall putting me back in a back brace for three months. That's one of the things I am really thankful for, that being retired, I don't have to battle forth regardlessIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Evening all.
For those who are planning to turn off outside taps to prevent them freezing, please do it with the tap in the 'open' position so any water in the pipe can run out. Otherwise, you run the risk of having water backed in the pipe which can then freeze and split the pipes. Not everyone knows this but it makes perfect sense once it's pointed out.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
