Don't know if anyone's seen the news about the gas pipe to Italy blowing up, and the Italians saying they might have to declare a state of emergency? (BBC news was too full of the latest Star Wars film to notice anything foreign, but other news agencies have detail.) Very very glad I wasn't about to go to Italy, but feel very sorry for the Italians if they have to start rationing gas.
It's on ZH: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-12-12/huge-hub-explosion-sparks-another-surge-uk-natgas-prices

It does make you think, doesn't it - I got a bit cold today, so simply switched the heating on ... but with no fuel at all? Brrrrrrrrrrr ... the frost in my garden didn't melt at all today.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Might be a blessing in disguise if it persuades TPTB to put a halt to the destruction of our coal power stations.
Has anyone been looking at the consumption charts this week?

One of the nuclear stations is being refueled so we are 2GW short there. Coal is flat out at 10 GW most of the day. I believe the max that gas can provide is 25.5 GW, so it's a good job it's quite windy at the moment.0 -
They'll regret it if they do away with coal..0

doh, my laptop gave up the ghost completely two evenings ago. Silly me, I had no backup of my e mail address book for starters, I was using a plusnet e mail but my ds says that an e mail like gmail keeps all that info in the cloud. So now I have started to change over but very very slowly. All my bookmarks, gone. M/S money gone and was so relied upon to keep me on the straight and narrow.
So I will be removing the hardrive and have ordered a case and adapter so I can maybe salvage something on my enforced new laptop. I say enforced but it arrived in 18 hours from dell. I am having to learn windows 10 after being used to windows 7 since it came out. I am liking my new laptop, small and neat but grhh I do hate change and this m/s money, well I could cry a bucket but will have to bite the bullet and am now set on exploring acemoney instead. Trying out the trial version for a few days and will likely buy it
ps I am liking windows 10, never thought I would0 -
Kittie, if you were to look for a duplicate 2nd hand computer on ebay, you could probably switch the hard drives, and continue as you were.0

Kittie MS money works on my computer with Windows 10 no problem and you can download a 'sunset' version for free from the Microsoft website
I'd be distraught if I couldn't use MS Money any more, none of the others I've looked at suited me
Hopefully you will be able to clone the hard drive. When I put a new Solid state drive in my laptop it came with Acronis True Image to clone the old hard drive and I think it worked OK as far as I can rememberIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Thanks jko and Maryb, I did think of a second hand laptop but decided on sons advice to get a good dell, with a robust modern hdd and enough memory. I will try my money cd on portable usb disc drive. I won`t have my data but I`ll have a new start anyway. I am going to try one more time on the old laptop, with a new adapter and battery but it will have to repair itself first, checkdisc and other repairs. If I get any dregs of life from it, then I will use it for money and just a couple of things like craftsy classes but I`m not living in hope0
