Foil helmet, hey? Bet that kills the romance at bedtime......(all right, I’ll get me coat...)
One life - your life - live it!
  • Very apt for a prepper though, do you also have the required safety pin, rolling pin and pinny to go with it JkO?

That must be a meme I'm not familiar with. What do you do with those things? :)

jko that must be so debilitating for you. I've never heard of anything like that before. I hope it calms for you real soon.

nargle I agree with you whole heartedly. I like that my children people have boundaries and know what is expected and when. I (naughtily) use their cousins (on both sides) spoilt ways as a way of explaining why we have routines and why we are respectful of what is expected. I do have food battles though but I'm trying to lead by example of what not to do (and I was fed hot dogs and Smash as a kid, remember) but boy, those kids must be so tired of my lectures! :D

kittie your post about orange light is so apt. I was reading last night that our forefathers had less of a problem with sleep patterns due to their lighting coming from the glow of their fire.

From way back when on the original prepping site along with the obligatory foil helmet (or possibly an upturned colander) these items of apparel were voted in as the insignia of the preppers to be worn in times of peril to tell other preppers you were on the same side and presumably to put the fear of God into everyone else!!! Told you I have a very alternative sense of humour, I can just see us in my minds eye, rolling pins at the ready.....Oh and I believe sharpened toothbrushes might have been in the mix too, ask some of the others !
  • nargleblast I agree 100% about routine for children too. JKO I empathise, I don`t use a mobile phone and have no signal here, the modem is connected 24/7 though and I may well turn that off when I go up. I often turn off the tv ariel booster too. Am I the only one who hears faint earth beats at night, not my body systems? JKO walk around on a non insulating surface with bare feet, it will ground you. If anyone gets shocks in winter then do the same before touching metal door handles etc.

Got to go, coffee finished and am in throes of winter clothes sorting , KM stuff

I am loving this conversation and, like Kittie, could say taht it goes to my very core.

i believe I have candida overgrowth leading to leaky gut syndrome. i am (dangerously maybe) self-diagnosed. I try to avoid certain foods (coffee and alcohol, I am still working on - though don't drink a great amount of either..). the biggest difference to me was cutting sugar and shop - bought bread. i make my own sourdough and probably have half of a 2lb loaf in a week. I take honegar (apple cider vinegar with honey) though only as and when i remember. I eat food as close to its natural state as possible - the closest to ready made food is an occasional fish finger meal.

I sleep 7 - 8 hours a night and am grumpy if i get fewer than 7 hours :p and sleep deeply, and dream vividly. My gut is a lot better than it was a couple of years ago. I am not especially low carb - i eat potatoes, for example, but not much else from the 'big' carbs..

I love kimchi, but need to learn how to make it, to get the full effect...

Also, as a 'prepping for getting older' kind of thing, i have taken up yoga again. i was a bit horrified when i did a class in the summer, after many years out, and a 70 year old with a hip replacement was much stronger and more flexible than me (i am 53). Only a few weeks in and I can already feel the difference in my flexibility and my joint strength. i used to hate the 'mediation' part - could always think of a million things i 'should' be doing. I rather love it now - a few moments of stillness in otherwise busy days. i don't even think of it as an indulgence anymore, more a necessery preparation...
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • yoga. I can`t do it, hurts my joints but pilates and tai chi, oh yes. I used to do both, can still do the pilates 100, once house move is sorted then I will go to classes for both again

Keep an eye on your tongue VJ, pretty good for spotting candida. Think of mouth/gut/skin as one system, which it is
  • Yep....exercise as well is a good idea. I've got two regular things I go to each week - sitting here "shattered" right now from one of them this morning - but I'm sure it's very good for me:rotfl:. Personally "I take no prisoners" with my attitude to what I expect of myself - and, if someone else is managing the moves - then I'm working on trying to as well (even if the someone else is noticeably younger than me).

Am working my way round to getting in some more exercise into my schedule one way or another....
  • We walk, we walk the dogs, we walk to get to places, we garden, He Who Knows processes wood from trunk to kindling, we stay active in every way we can. He's 73 in January and I will be 70 but we're not taking any notice of the numbers we just get on with life and if things take slightly longer to do than when we were younger, well so what? I think losing the weight helps but we've always been active and relatively healthy. We do both have conditions that mean regular and permanent medication but dosage of mine has been reduced and some gone altogether, He Who Knows remains constant and he has no visible effects from the problem. We just get on and live life as fully as we're able, I giggle when I overtake people when I'm out walking though as lots of them are considerably younger than me and they're struggling!
