Hello everyone :hello: I hope you don't mind me lurking on this thread too. Sadly I don't have time to take part fully in the threads (I'm on the MMM thread too).
I think I'm a natural prepper - you should see my cupboards :rotfl:but joking aside, I do think being prepared for whatever life throws at you is essential.
Jumping in on the gut bacteria theme, I have a dairy intolerance and I think a yeast one too. The plus side of these is that it has taught me to become more aware of my body and therefore I can use the more simple ways to nip things in the bud.
With the dairy intolerance I too went the goat's milk route after 3 years of purgatory trying to be dairy free. I've now converted to the lactose 'free' milk - mainly because of cost considerations. So far I've found it very good if a little sweet. (Lactose free isn't really lactose free, it has had the enzyme Lactase added (and obviously no longer being produced by me) which converts the lactose to two simpler sugars, glucose being one I think, and which are much sweeter to the taste).
With the yeast I now make soda bread when I want bread - I have however been eating yeasted products while a friend is here and have had to turn to the good old cranberry juice to sort out a re-emergence of cystitis symptoms!
I used to make my own kefir using normal milk but I found I wasn't tolerant to it and goat's milk was too expensive but since I seem to be fine with lactose free milk I'm going to have a go at making kefir with that.Aiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

Welcomd dnd
Look up A2 milk, easily tolerated for lactose sufferers. Jersey, guernsey etc Lots less of the A1 protein. Very good milk and in most supermarkets0 -
Welcome dND
My question is to all of you that do need different foods for health reasons. Do you find it more difficult to [STRIKE]hoard food[/STRIKE] store food for SHTF instances?
Walking is good LynI'd best not go out with you on a wander just yet but give me time
I did do yoga last week. I didn't realise with yoga I had to actually pull and squeeze so when I did I pulled myself. YouTube turned off and vowed never to do it again. Are tai chi and pilates gentle in comparison? I do walk though, and lots.0 -
I've found an early evening yoga class only a few mins' walk away and am planning to start it next week. It's something I've been meaning to (but obviously not meaning enough, or I'd've actually done it!) for many years.
In my early fifties, I'm getting stiff and less flexible and feel the need to rectify that, yoga sounds just the ticket, as my walking and gardening clearly isn't enough for the flexibility side of fitness.I expect to be stiff as a board and totally rubbish at it for many weeks/ months, but the only way is up, hey?:rotfl:
I take a tbsp on honegar in a large glass of water in the morning, as well as dress my twice-daily salads with apple cider vinegar and olive oil. I feel much better on this style of eating and it keeps my weight steady. I figure no one has a bad word about veggies and small amounts of meat and fish and two eggs a day, most days.
Oh, and nuts and seeds and natural yoghurt, too. And 85% dark chocolate, food of the gods, just experimenting with tosspots finest 85% cooking chocolate, very nice and about half the price of most 85% cocoa chocolate.

Oh yes, - I have a small amount of herr Alidi's 85% moser roth chocolate every day - it amounts to about 25g. We call it our "medicinal chocolate".
I believe tai chi is gentler than yoga - but yoga isn't supposed to give you strains (it will ache a bit after the first time but then that should go) - the whole point of yoga is to do the right amount for you and, generally, teachers will say "stay in this position if it is enough, but if you want more then do...." I believe that exercise should be whatever is right for you - i do a lot of walking also, but wouldn't dream of going to the gym. i am a firm believer that you can't exercise out a bad diet.
I am starting to eat less and less meat - just some good quality red meat every few days but I now have many vegetarian days.. I drink soya milk - but don't have tons. I think it has helped me have a (so far) fairly easy menopause.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
nargleblast I agree 100% about routine for children too. JKO I empathise, I don`t use a mobile phone and have no signal here, the modem is connected 24/7 though and I may well turn that off when I go up. I often turn off the tv ariel booster too. Am I the only one who hears faint earth beats at night, not my body systems? JKO walk around on a non insulating surface with bare feet, it will ground you. If anyone gets shocks in winter then do the same before touching metal door handles etc.
Got to go, coffee finished and am in throes of winter clothes sorting , KM stuff
Thanks Kittie.
I think you are right to turn off your tv aerial booster. For months at my old house I was suffering headaches, and it turned out to be my Sky box! (They have a transmitter inside for TV's that don't have a Scart plug.)
Here I have a similar problem with my freeview box. This now lives in a steel cabinet, and is switched off by a timeswitch every night.
Regarding modems, I use a Speedtouch 330 USB modem for my computer. If I put on the modem Orange supplied, I get a headache even with the wifi off. I think maybe it does not go completely off.0 -
yoga twists my joints, pilates strengthens the core and gives that all needed flexibility to joints. Tai chi is slow, steady, strengthening all over. There are classes not far away, I will join later0

FUDS in a SHTF situation that lasted for any length of time you'd be lucky to find and keep any edibles whether they were the right dietary needs or not. If the world was in chaos and people were desperate they (and we) would have to grab anything they could find and use any means they could to stay alive, eat what was there before someone else did and be prepared to fight for it if necessary. Stark but true!0

Morning!
Rain has stopped allotment play, so I'm up to other things and just found this, possibly interesting to some of us? : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAL3JXZSzSm8AlZyD3nQdBAEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I can't use dairy products made from cow's milk any more, and goat's milk seems too expensive for me too, plus I don't want to use lactose free milk - I'm not sure of the price, but I don't want to use milk that's been "worked on" like that. So when I'm ready to get back into kefir, I'm going to do water kefir.Read a line somewhere about how if you don't take time out for healthy habits, you're going to have to take time out to be ill.Rain has stopped allotment play, so I'm up to other things and just found this, possibly interesting to some of us? : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAL3JXZSzSm8AlZyD3nQdBASave2023: the year I get to buy a car0
