All I am saying is it is difficult to attribute the absence of a condition to a particular practice. Maybe my 20 year lull was down to imbibing tawny port on a weekend.0 -
oh my goodness, this discussion is so close to my heart, my very being. Everyone who comes to chat with me comes with a notepad for hints and tips. Everyone wants and needs to feel well
Circadian rhythm is what the wake sleep pattern is about and that is what personally I have been working on and successfully, so I am now into the 7-8 hour sleep cycle. The hour change played havoc for a few days and the full moon will influence me too
GQ yes goats milk. I can only drink cows milk in tea, so I have one large mug of tea every morning, the only time I drink cows milk. Organic, full cream, none-homogenised. Goats cheese is what I eat and my stomach loves it. Never cows cheese. I made kefir with goats milk, wonderful for the gut but was a potch, so I stopped and take one capsule a day
Everyone needs to be aware that probiotics can also be a problem. They could cause overgrowth, so you need to take things slowly and again be aware of how the body is reacting ie note the type of bacteria likely to be in what you are taking.and not to take too much to start with. Be aware too that rumbling wind is normal at the start and shows that the bacteria are colonising
I am loving to hear the speakers on their soapboxes and yes I agree about the nhs being there in emergencies. They were wonderful and worked so hard on my husband via air ambulance, which is one of my two charities. Getting older now, I do simple things like holding handrails whenever I go downstairs. I wear slippers that are fastened close to my feet etc0 -
Well, I like the idea of tawny port, too, pineapple!Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Tawny port - says she looking up hopefully:beer:. Not very often at all I get a drop of what I'm particularly partial to - well that and brandy...:p
...and...yes...I think our bodies do have a level of innate wisdom - if we can learn to tap into it and I'm trying to wake that capacity up and listen to it as far as I can.
I think the ability must be there to train ourselves to listening to what our bodies are trying to tell us - eg "Eat some more fruit", "Have a (suitable) drink". Working on it personally - though I only feel reasonably confident so far about when my body starts demanding sleep. One thing I can rely on is that I'm the person in the corner whose eyelids are known to start drooping visibly at around 10.30/11pm and, as for any idea of staying up beyond 11pm = you can forget it these days - my bed is calling much too loudly.
At the other end of the spectrum - and my bed is probably "shoving me out of it" at around 6am/7am of a morning. Though the odd times it isn't, then I listen and stay put for another hour or two..0 -
really good 8 hours full sleep again last night, a big change from tossing and turning every night at 3. How did it happen: routine, training my brain. Blackout curtains, no electricals on, except socket for bedside lamp, 15w orange bulb in there. Go up at 10 every night, no reading, no tv. As soon as I enter bedroom, the main light goes off and dim orange/red light goes on, sleep ambience brain signal immediately. Previously ready for bed or do teeth etc in red glow in the ensuite. This sleep is extremely healing
Previous weeks, checked for sources of wakeful hip pain at night, changed nightie for style with flat side seams and I also have a handy pillow in case of hips, to put between knees but not now needed since the pain cycle is now broken. Awake naturally at 6.15 every morning and up at 6.30. Body likes routine. wrt ref to slippers etc, safety prepping as getting older. Holding handrail when coming down any stairs or escalator and close fitting fastened slippers
Damp grim day today, so if possible an indoors day while damp. Cheery music to uplift0 -
It is not just us older humans who need routine, I believe children thrive on it. Having two grown up offspring I am sure I made every mistake that parents can make, but I am convinced children grow up healthier and happier with regular meals, set bedtimes and getting up times, set household rules and consistency in applying them. Some children will have food likes and dislikes, most will fight against the imposition of bedtime at some point, but I think being persistent and firm in applying the routines is the key. It doesn’t mean you have to run your household like a Dickensian workhouse, there is room for love and laughter and play. It is just that our bodies and minds, children and adults alike, need regularity and routine to function properly. You only have to observe households where that happens to see it is true, in the same way that you see results from dietary changes.
(Gets off soapbox, drinks healing cup of lemon and ginger tea and plans the day ahead. Making the most of today as I am working all weekend - so much for routine and regularity!)One life - your life - live it!0 -
Here's an odd one:
I may have mentioned I am electrosensitive, so can't use a mobile phone. About ten years ago this was particularly bad. Even my neighbours' wifi used to give me a headache when I was in bed. I eventually found I was far less susceptible when I stopped drinking the water from my water softener. (Excess sodium.)
However, last night I had the same symptom: A really intense headache, which abates for a while when you change position. (A different part of your brain is now facing any transmitter.) I had to get up at 1am, and move all my bedclothes to the bed in my back bedroom. There I slept soundly until 7am.
I have wracked my brain for what could have caused this. The only thing I can come up with is there is a temporary traffic light right outside. I believe these are linked by radio nowadays. It must be powerful though, as it is still about 50' from my bed.0 -
That’s scary, jko, is there anything you can put between you and the source to insulate you from the effects?
Regarding water softeners, there should always be a separate small tap for drinking water which doesn’t go through the softener. One life - your life - live it!0 -
Oh poor jk0
If it is the temporary traffic light causing the problem I do hope it won't be there for long.

Thanks Nargle. Yeah, there is something... A foil helmet. This is very hot though, as it has to completely enclose your head with just a hole to breath through. I also tried lining the bedroom walls, floor, door & ceiling of my previous house with foil, but you need to electrically connect all the joins, which seemed impossible to do completely.
Yeah, that tap is what I use now, and I have put one in the bathroom as well. I only drank the soft water to start with because it kept my kettle so nice & clean.0
