The Us and the Russians are circling round each other but it's a dance they're familiar with. It's N Korea that concerns me. Even China is now telling them to back off but they seem to be turning their attention to Japan, maybe to provoke a US/China face-off?It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I'd concur. I would also expect the assassination of the NK president, either in a palace coup or by special forces from a foriegn power.
Putin's a thug but he's not a fool. Kim is a nutter but he's only as strong as those who support him; even Roman emperors had to worry about the Praetorian Guard murdering them. There is a lot of sabre-rattling going on right now, which means it's an excellent time for TPTB to try sneaking something out when we're all looking at the ME or Asia. Keep your eyes peeled and your spidey-senses keen, preppers.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I quite like Putin - he doesn't make a fuss, just gets quietly on with his job and is very effective at it. I thought Trump would be the one assassinated though, not the Korean.0

I pined for the "make it look like an accident, 007"
Now, I can hardly wait for The Visit, as rather than take him golfing, I wish they'd take him shooting. And bag him with whatever ammo is most suited to benign diplomacy.
Hm. Treating wood not my specialist subject but unit armourer was all for sort shape, fixing etc then immerse in linseed oil for 24 hours. Once out & dry, apply & crack on - *nothing* further will be needed. Well, in the lifetime of the woodwork, anyway. We definitely immerse & carry on - it's cheaper than Renaissance Wax but then we're not exactly curators.
Adding a couple of layers of something untasty from the Shed of Doom seems entirely reasonable, but we will carve new handles, rehaft, source old new handles from military surplus etc etc. We also get evil great lengths of pole from chandlers - their boothook pole is our spear shaft etc and at 8' or 10' & still affordable? As well as being dashed good timber? The worst problem, ahem, is transporting it home. (Very odd looks on the bus.)0 -
I was glad I didn't have to take my new-to-me pitchfork across the county on the national hexpress coach ..... it's an heirloom and also has a metal haft, so I must be sure not to be using that on the lottie in a thunderstorm. Frying tonite.....
Didn't get up to the lottie after work today so the woodworm will, if still present, have a few more days to enjoy their wormy little lives, before I'm after them. Will take my bottle of boiled linseed oil up there to treat some wooden handles, gawd but I lurve the smell of that stuff.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

M'Grandmother's Shed Of Doom held the fish kettle she no longer used to feed the large family & instead used to soak woodwork.
I thought it an incredibly *long* baby bath when I saw it first, and asked if she'd taught mum to swim in it. Her expression was glorious - both I know something you don't & what will this chick hatch into?
Surely lottie thunderstorms mean retreat to potting shed for brew & brolly?
All metal pitchfork will be *hot* to handle in summer, no?0 -
I anticipate fairly limited applications for the pitchfork:
1. Rounding up materials which roll out of the bonfire (check, already done).
2. Taking part in civil unrest (unchecked, but ready and willing).
My lottie site is on the flank of a hill and my personal patch of heaven is close to the hill's crest, which is why it cops the wind and why I have to indulge in extreme engineering to keep things like runner beans vertical (pace the scaffolding pole reference, two of them are forming a frame to support the bean poles). And why my cold frame is only movable by two strong people with extreme difficulty.
Back when I started on the site, the old boys warned me that if there's a thunderstorm, to get the hell away from the site, as lightning has struck on there before. Have had to make a sharp exit only one, when a very sudden storm blew up and it was starting to get hairy.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Yeah, I know that's a slightly misleading title.
I think I mentioned my gf's experience with the AA. Back in Dec 2015, I bought her a gift subscription of membership, homestart, relay, and 'stay mobile'. This is the same package I have had for years. She was left at the side of the road from 11pm to 2am while a new tyre was fetched for her Smart car.
In view of that, I was annoyed to see that the AA wanted a further £290 for my package now, if that is the service I can expect. I now have membership solely for my car for £49.0 -
'Taking part', GQ? Why is it I can see you foremost amongst an informed and peeved group of citizens, perhaps lending both pitchfork & scaff poles whilst figuring tactics?
Mind, we've (several) pitchforks (two we just treated the rust on as a test of chemical techniques) & two flaming brands just awaiting a Cause and a match here, (one tarred, one waxed), looking like Satan's earbuds but then living with a research historian means we have the weirdest collection not acquired by Pitt Rivers of all sorts of stuff. I'll not suggest sound & film to him As Well...0
