is a mattaock the same as an Azada? I use mine all the time, its great for getting bramble roots out.
I believe so. There are variants in style of mattock, mine looks like a pick-axe to a casual glance but has two ends to the head, each with a chopping blade about 4 inches wide, one being set on the same axis as the head, the other at 90 degrees.
It's a ferociously efficient tool at going after deeply-rooted things like brambles, tree roots, docks etc and brilliant at breaking up solidified soil and getting barstewarding things like couch grass clumps up.
A well-maintained garden shouldn't really need a mattocking but if you're coping with dereliction, it's an invaluable tool. Mine came from Axm1nster T00ls years ago, the head and the hickory handle bought separately. Came postage free as was on the same order as Mum buying a smallish high-value tool - bonus!
You can also use it as a prying tool to lever things us. If you garden or allotmenteer on sub-optimal circs, I commend one to you. Only caveat is that you wil almost never encounter a secondhand example, they're not commong and people don't tend to part with them, in my experience.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

This may be the most dangerous time since the Cuban missile crisis.
Does anyone have a spare bunker?
NK has been coming out with this garbage for years.
Not to say it won't come true one day (like now ).0 -
So, we have noises from the Trumpmeister, noises from Iran, cold silence from Russia, and now that deformed dwarf with the dodgy haircut in North Korea is making noises.

Who brought the lion? I tell you, the inflatable elephant won't be happy!
Edited to add:
Just realised said inflatable elephant actually hangs out around the Garden Fence. One life - your life - live it!0 -
The more noise NK makes the less it actually signifies has usually been a good guide. Then again, there's always such a thing as a Black SwanIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I'm not bothering to watch the news. I have times when I just don't bother and don't seem to miss much. My life seems to carry on pretty much as normal. But today I heard on the radio news that China thinks there will be a war, that someones bombs are not as bad as someone elses (only half listening) then switched on the TV and quickly switched it off again as the loose women were having a rabbit wedding.
The world really has gone mad.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
The scariest thing about all this is that I do know some people who think this is all fine, because we're living in the End Times and it's bringing us to The Rapture... they will of course be saved, and the rest of us obviously didn't deserve to be! So they're cheering him on...Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

I wonder just what it is that makes one worthy of being saved and what makes one unworthy of being saved? To my way of thinking the elephant has to be involved somewhere along the line and probably the lion as well. If all fails we can always blame the clowns, believe me there are many more of them than we actually need and the scary thought is they're allegedly in charge!0
