EON want me to have smart meters

Yeah. You need to phrase E.ON out. as I did.
After all, unlike the "Cheap" Energy Club, they have a telephone number you can ring. And, being Efficient.ON, your call is answered swiftly by somebody competent.
Whether or not my refusal will indeed get through to E.ON’s Smart Meter Team at local level remains to be seen but they’d need weapons-grade bolt cutters and heavy duty oxy-acetylene equipment to get to the meters on my property if they turn up when we are out or away.
(That's also why they wouldn't work, here, anyway!)
It is almost as if some senior executive has to shift a whole warehouse of non DCC compliant meters to get a bonus and is trying every trick to do so.
That's my suspicion, too. Either way, it doesn't excuse [STRIKE]dishonesty[/STRIKE] a serious lack of frankness to customers.0 -

It is up for a review I believe. Suppliers could get around some of the fears people seem to have with a smart meter by simply taking an automatic reading once a month and avoiding data collection on a larger scale such as in half hourly reads.
I saw a video of a determined refuser in Ireland on the StopsmartmetersUK website and it was an ugly affair requiring the Police in attendance. Judging by some of the posters on here that scene is going to be replicated all over the UK. The general public in the UK don`t seem to have accepted smart meters in the same way as say, the Italians or the Republic of Ireland has.0 -

This more recent article from the Inquirer is also worth a look.

What would you do if the legislation allowing a refusal for a smart meter was changed to make them obligatory as they are in most of Europe, ( Germany and Sweden excepted ) ?
I would comply with the law.
What would my supplier then do when it discovered that its smart meters weren't smart enough to function at my property?0 -
@sosumi -you beat me to it!!
Had a boiler service just now - and the guy had to take a cheque because his payment machine wouldn't maintain a connection.0 -
Ironic. We don't want them and yesterday E,ON put a splash on my online account's opening page stating that my meter (sic) was being "phased out" and instructing me (no less) to book an appointment to have (a) smart one(s) installed.
Armed with what Malc has previously stated on here, I rang EON and told them, politely but firmly, that we refuse E.ON permission to install one (any) at our premises.
The guy seemed unfazed by that; said he'd flag our account to that effect and also inform the Smart Meter Team of our decision, to prevent any misunderstandings. Thanks Malc! :T
Mable, you are welcome to have ours if you want them!Yeah. You need to phrase E.ON out. as I did.

Sorry it's come across this way Sosumi but glad my earlier posts helped. There's certainly an option on our systems to note where a customer doesn't want a Smart Meter but not all advisors have access to this. If you phoned one of our Smart Meter teams, they do have this access and will have updated your account there and then. If it was a general Contact Centre, they'll have noted the account and emailed through to the smart teams. If you need them, contact details for our smart teams are on our website.
Hope this is of interest Sosumi.

@sosumi
I've see that and had 3 letters from Eon re:smart meters.
Each letter has less information in it and gets more like "you must" rather than you may.
The 3rd letter from 2 weeks ago did not mention that smart meters are not a legal obligation but did use that phrase "phased out".
Note my meter is reasonable new and has not had its lifespan so the letters are using "tricky, mean words" to confuse people.
I've complained to Eon Malc about this earlier in the year but the tone of the letters is getting worse not better.
It is almost as if some senior executive has to shift a whole warehouse of non DCC compliant meters to get a bonus and is trying every trick to do so.
Sorry about this gsmlnx. I did put your feedback/complaint through but didn't seem to have much impact. I'll try again.

@E.ON Malc
Thank you Malc, would be nice if the decision makers listened to constructive criticism.0 -

Hello sacsquacco.
We're set up to take smart meter readings once a month. This can be done more frequently but only with the customer's agreement. Before the meter is installed, customers can choose whether or not readings are taken every half hour, daily or, as now, monthly. It's the customer's choice, though. If they wish, we'll stick to monthly. Totally take your point but, the more often readings are taken, the more accurate billing and future usage predictions will be.
Hope this is of interest.
