Anyone heard of Dinerstore of York?

I hope i've put this on the right board.

I'm hoping someone maybe able to help. I saw a coffee table many moons ago that I really wanted but never got around to buying, and it eventually vanished.

I've finally found it on the internet at a store called the Dinerstore in York, it's also slightly cheaper than when I last saw it on the highstreet.

I just wondered if anyone had used this company or had any experience of them? I'm a bit nervous about ordering from there website as it looks a little "low-tech"

I understand that their premises is at "34 Piccadilly, York, YO1 9NX" does anyone know them or can anyone vouch for them?

Hi, I know this place, never actually bought anything from them but I've been in a few times. Low Tech would proably describe the shop as well, but they have loads of good stuff at a decent price. Might be worth giving them a ring though as it looked like the shop had a lease sign outside it the last time I looked...it may have closed?
    Hope this helps!

I've tried calling on a number of occasions however, I've only managed to get through to someone yesterday.

The lady who sounded pleasant enough explained that they were looking to move to Leeds (I suppose I only have her word for this), this might explain the Lease sign. I've noticed that there website changed over night, since posting this thread. Spooky....

Have they been trading for a while?

I really do like the Coffee Table. If I buy with my M&S &More Mastercard over the net am I covered in the same way as buying over the counter? The goods would be £199.

I have also been passed the store in July, and saw a dining set which I recognised having seen on www.furniture123.co.uk - it was about £100 more at dinerstore for the basic set, don't know their delivery costs, but I also thought the particular high back chairs I wanted were alot extra with them. Came home and ordered from 123, getting 6 chairs instead of 4 for cheaper than dinerstores.

I didn't really like the look of the store and I also saw a lease sign above it. Never saw anyone in there the times I went by. Would not surprise me if it was closing down - personally, I would want to know more about this store before placing an order.

Incidentally, I think the 123 site comes from Leeds - maybe the furniture for both comes from the same warehouse. I do believe 123 supply to trade.

Hi Birdy, Thanks for your reply. In my instance the table seems a little cheaper than the one I was going to buy previously (From BHS / Alders). However I can understand Dinerstore price being slightly higher in certain circumstances, if they have a store in York to Fund.

I'd love to buy from 123 as I have used them before, despite a minor problem with the dining suite I had purchased from them, they resolved the issue very quickly. Unfortunately they don't have this table that I want. Its a shame.

Furniture 123 do definately have a premises in Leeds, however I am told that no stock is kept there as the premises is merely an admin office.

  • From my own experience of dealing with Dinerstore, I would advise anyone to steer clear of the company. I hope this hasn't come too late for you, dreamypuma (I've only just come across this site)!

I ordered a dining set from them over 6 months ago and still haven't received it. They took my money as soon as the order was placed, delivered a 'replacement' set after a month and have spent the time since then fobbing me off. Promised delivery dates have come and gone and they have not once contacted me about this situation without me phoning them first. They didn't even contact me with the first delivery date, I had to ring them. They do not seem to know the meaning of customer service, especially when things go wrong.

I imagine if they have an item in stock, this type of situation would not occur and the experience with them would be different. However, there was no suggestion at the time of my order that the item was out of stock (it has always since then been put down to a temporary difficulty with their supplier).

It would seem ordering from dinerstore.co.uk is a gamble and one that I would not be prepared to make again. icon9.gif

Any purchase over £100 is covered by the credit card company but they can be awkward!

I ordered a dining set from them a few months back. I placed the order and then didn't hear from them for a good few weeks when I phoned them up to chase my order. It was delivered OK but very slow on responding. Happy with the item I got though.
  • I have just been ripped off for £500 (it may not sound like a lot of money but it took me a year to save it) by Dinerstore, I wait 6 weeks for a promised table and chairs I called them to ask when it was coming was told it would be another 6 weeks but would give me £50 off 2 days later they had gone into insolvency.

I feel cheated and will stuggle to buy another one for at least another year - GUTTED.
  • This is on their web site now:-

Please be advised that as of Wednesday 2nd April 2008 Dinerstore ceased trading. All orders received on or after 1st April 2008 have not been processed. All matters concerning the business are now in the hands of our Insolvency Practitioners. All outstanding customers will be contacted directly by our Insolvency Practitioners in the near future.

Did you pay by credit card? If so contact your credit card company asap as you might be able to get your money back. I always use my credit card for all purchases over £100 because of the added protection it gives me.
