    You must:

offer the in-store service for free - but you can charge to cover transport costs if you’re collecting items from customers’ homes

My local council remove three bulky items for £21. However the council I work for - used to be on the phones would not remove American style fridge freezers as they were too heavy (one of the guys put his back out so they decided not worth the risk) Used to charge £5 per item or three items for £10. They also had to state they would not remove caravans - as people would often try to argue they were one item so should be covered by the collections. Haha

    It's worth asking though...

    Stashbuster - 2014 98/100 - 2015 175/200 - 2016 501 / 500 2017 - 200 / 500 2018 3 / 500

Realistically its 15 years old, unlikely to be energy efficient and it's broken! You are paying £800 and quibbling over £30 to dump it - why not see if you can get a 5% disount on the new one and then you'll be £10 in pocket - or see if you can beat the £800 price for the one you want, then The £30 dumping charge disappears/reduces.:)

Absolutely; and a responsible scrappy (don't laugh, our local guy is one) will not take it because they do not have a licence to dispose of the gas. We asked him.

Why would anyone want a fridge/freezer that does not work? They would just be stuck with the bill for removing it, rather than you. £30 sounds like a bargain to me, given all the environmental issues and the fact that someone is risking a hernia to move it.

Sure its fixable though. Who knows? Might be a £5 part so useful for someone who knows what they're doing. £5 and a bit of time and they could have a fridge worth a few £100.

Its just for me its £175 for a callout and then who knows how it'll perform in the future so not worth it. If I was a white goods engineer then I'd repair it myself of course.

If you are not a white goods engineer, how can you be sure it is fixable?

It's been said. You have no problem forking £800 for a new one but you are complaining no-one will take it away for free or, better yet, pay you to get a hernia and a fine from the environment agency.

I have a samsung FF that turned itself off/on often stayed off though.

I had someone look at it but they gave up after testing just about everything and did not charge(pride for not being able to fix it)

got the service/wiring diagrams and worked out it was the display/switch circuit board replacement cost IIRC £60(If you can source one)
    Alternative solution disconnect that board.

If it is just the freezer it could be something simple like a faulty thermistor(very easy to test)

If frost free could be the heater

Perhaps its not then. I dont know. But it would be nicer if someone could make use out of it.

Could be. Trouble is I dont have the time to do all that - fair play to you of course. And I dont want to risk losing even more food when it does off again.

Our council charges to collect, but the service is free to council tenants. (Rather unfair as 'council tenant' does not mean 'low income'.)

The annoying loudhailer using scrap collectors (thank goodness we haven't heard many recently) shout out a long list of items they would like, then add that they can't accept fridges or freezers (obviously because of disposal regulations/costs.)

Maybe you should think outside the box. I hear they can be very effective for suffocating children. Do you think a small, skinny adult would fit in there? It is American, after all. It's just, we have the neighbours from hell... you'd have to deliver it, though. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
