Alternatively if you can get it to where itinerant scrap metal folk can see & collect it? I've "disposed" of several fridges & freezers that way & I'm pretty sure they weren't all scrapped but repaired/refurbished & sold on.

Finally, it is something to mention at the school gates. (If you still have school aged children.) Or to any community groups (Scouts, rugby club, cricket club, church hall etc) who might have use for a big fridge & be able to find the funds to repair it.

    Best of luck!

Someone with a newspaper trolley will be able to wheel it out of your house no bother. I'd be able to do it on my own and get it in my van. Stick it on freecycle. If nobody wants it, then pay the 30 quid

Scrappers will only want the motor unless it is made of metal . If it is then they will be banging at your door to take it off your hands!

Check with the council first. Ours (Warrington) removes white goods including fridges and freezers for free.

No they won't as they can't weigh them in.

Good idea but OP note that in most cases council requires the item is left on kerbside on day of collection, so if u can't do it yourself or with family help bet bet to pay £30.

Some councils collect white goods free - providing your a Pensioner and produce your Birth Certificate and State Pension Book + Proof of residency, a utility Bill or equivalent.
If your a Pensioner, check your Council Website for details:beer:
Do they still want a letter from your parents as well?

As mentioned in an earlier post, it's important to dispose of a Fridge/Freezer properly, and if you let one of these scrap dealers with a white van take it they're not going to be worried about the gases that are going to be released.

Absolutely; and a responsible scrappy (don't laugh, our local guy is one) will not take it because they do not have a licence to dispose of the gas. We asked him.

Why would anyone want a fridge/freezer that does not work? They would just be stuck with the bill for removing it, rather than you. £30 sounds like a bargain to me, given all the environmental issues and the fact that someone is risking a hernia to move it.
