eBay Neutral Christmas Savings Challenge

Hopefully it is ok to post this here. Like many of you, I save vouchers, nectar points etc all year for Christmas, but inevitably, cash always gets spent, so this year, with a house full of clutter, I started eBaying stuff March-May and managed to have a 'free' holiday with the money (obviously not free but technically money neutral)...
Now september is here, I thought about having a little challenge with myself to recoup any hard and fast cash I've spent on Christmas presents/food/wrapping paper etc by selling stuff on eBay.
Would anyone care to join me??
25% re-couped earns you Christmas Bauble level
50% re-couped earns you Christmas Stocking level
75% re-couped earns you Christmas Tree level
100% re-couped earns you Father Christmas status!
[More than 100% re-couped earns you a trip to the north pole -well done you!!]
I'm aiming for 75% to start with and will keep my progress in my signature!!

sounds like a great idea:idea:0

Sounds great to me - might be just the incentive I need to make me clear the clutter within a decent timescale. :T
Sick of moving stuff from one place to another - but it feels so overwhelming to try and and shift it all at one go. I'd just about decided to bin the lot, but I know there's real cash tied up in it.....that's why it's still clutter, 'cause the old MSE instincts won't let me throw it out !!
Think I'll aim for listing at least 7 items a week until Christmas. Lots are probably low-value, but it all tops up the old Paypal account. As I buy quite a few items from ebay anyway, it neutralises the festive impact on the debit card.... !!
Good luck all...... !!0 -

You'd be surprised at what sells!!! Good luck to you! best and quickest way of listing is to sell all your books in one go or all your photo albums in one go or whatever, as you dont have to sift through loads of categories then when listing!!
I have got a great spreadsheet that allows you to work out how much overall profit you have made on each item (subtracts insertion fee, postage etc) if you would like it PM me and i'll send you a copy!

I love the concept of paying for christmas with junk errrrr I mean quality unwanted goods
I have a day off today so I've decided I'm going to collect my ebay items and pop in boxes ready to ebay.
I've decided to list at least a box a week..
I've already bought 50% of my christmas pressies already :j
so I need to try and recoup that money first.
I'd love to aim for the 100% Father Christmas status but I think I'll see how it gos :santa2:
Sooooo I've decided to officially go for 75% Christmas Tree level :xmastree:0 -

Good luck Sally Savings! I'll be interested to see how everyone does! I have bought all the 'stocking fillers' and friends presents, but need to wait to see what the main family all want which is where the big money lies.... still 50% or 75% is better than nothing! best of luck!!

I hope you dont mind me doing a version of your signature with the challenge on my Id signature - that way i can update it every day
If this is not ok with you please let me know and I will remove it
I am gonna aim for Christmas Tree Level.Remember is nice to be important but more important to be nice0 -
Just having a well deserved lunch break from searching for items to sell on ebay. Not doing too bad so far
I've got lots of christmas pressies (from sales, car boots, charity shops) already but its the main pressies that I have left for my oh and four children that are going to cost me the money
So I really need to get some items posted up and get this challenge started (sounds like the words of a pop song lol)
Jamtart...hope you dont mind but I've followed suit as well and added the challenge to my sig, if its a problem please let me know and of course I'll remove it.
Good luck everyone!!0 -
Hello
This is a great idea I want to join too!!! I've already bought a fair few pressies so like someone else on here I'll need to work on getting that back first. I'm going to go for 50% back - mainly because I'm not sure how much of my junk I can shift! Will try and up-date my signature but really useless at stuff like that so it may never appear!:j0
