And don't people have the right to cancel a contract after signing it?

Not necessarily. It depends on the contract and the situation.

All purchases made on the seller's premises should be considered final unless advised otherwise at the time of the sale.

I must say I am shocked at the replies

What about people who actually know how the law works?
  • It is true that the mother was not taken advantage of, but there are nice ways of saying things! And don't people have the right to cancel a contract after signing it? It is usually somewhere between 24 hours and 7 days.

No rights to cancel when it comes to travel, even when sold online or over the phone.

I don't think the replies have been belittling. I do think though the OP was insulting to his mum by implying that at her age she is gullible. If my son ever said that about me he'd get corrected in no uncertain terms.

His posts prove he hasn't a clue how things in travel work, and his comparison figures were a joke.
How would you feel if it was your relative you believed had been ripped off? How would you react

I'd find out for myself if she had any 'consumer rights' and not by asking a bunch of random strangers on the internet. If the OP actually thinks his mum is capable of being taken advantage of then he should have either gone with her to book, or booked it for her, so he should have been looking at himself, not blaming a travel agent. That said, he doesn't come across as being any more capable than he perceives his mum to be.

Ah that is good to know, thank you :)

I might look online for consumer rights too, but surely this forum is the ideal place to ask for advice? Isn't that what it is here for? That is why I didn't like the 'tone' of a lot of replies because the OP did have the right to ask the question there and people could have been a little nicer about it.

After all, when you are right you can afford to be courteous surely lol? (Not you personally there, that was a Royal 'you').

I think many of the posters replying were irritated by the ageist comments in the original post and this might be evident in their scathing, but factual, rebuttals.
