  • I also agree that Alice Holt's contribution is excellent, as are the member's other contributions to the forum. There are many members to this forum whose input is excellent.

In respect of the criticism I have received re this post.

First there is the accusation that I was seeking to have members PM me and then take advantage of them. I accept that in the past (approx 1-2 years ago) I did have PM contact with 2-3 members re sensitive employment law matters, but that was done because it was agreed with said members that it would potentially be unwise to air specific grievances in an open forum just in case the employer was observing a forum, such as MSE - it does happen. At no stage did I attempt to or even infer that I was seeking any form of compensation.

With respect to this specific post I did not ask members to PM me. I simply enquired whether anybody would have an interest in hearing about the appeal process that I experienced. The immediate replies to my post then drew inferences that I was a sham, unqualified and seeking to profiteer from the site. I think that such responses inflamed certain members and the accusations grew. As a result I elected to withdraw from the core content of the post.

Second re the allegation that I do not need to make reference to me being a lawyer. I agree. That was demeaning to the many members and others who overcome the injustices of the benefit system, even without third party support. That said seeking help from or via an unpaid and competent volunteer (such as Alice Holt .. or say the CAB) is likely to be of assistance.
