one last question: I've seen the Moto G4 2nd generation has Android 4.4. I'd like Android 5 as lots of apps nowadays require that and probably more will in the future. is it possible to upgrade Android on this or any other phone? or will it stay 4.4. forever?

cos if it's the latter I'll have to go for the Nexus as it's already Android 6

    My bad I overlooked that.

Yes a Nexus 5x is your best option, you just wont be able to add an sd card.

Fairly sure the moto G4 comes with marshmallow, can be gotten even cheaper with a unidays code, check out thread on hotukdeals, nexus 5x really poor battery life from what i've read.

I have moto g 3rd gen which is decent enough with all day battery.

thanks mate, yeah battery life is VERY important to me, from the reviews I saw on Amazon USA the battery on the Nexus seems good

    I'll check Hotukdeals later properly

Moto G 4th generation currently £160 at John Lewis.

It's got a 5.5 inch screen which may be a bit large and other offers may be around but that's one that stands out.

Looks a great phone for the price. Only downside for me is the lack of NFC = no Android Pay.

You may not have to spend anything at all!

I own a moto g 1st gen phone and was finding it very slow and my battery was draining away at an alarming rate. My son (a bit more teck-savvy than me) suggested I try the 360 security app. This is basically a free app available from the google play store. Once downloaded to your phone it does an analysis of all the clutter and things that may be slowing down your phone and draining your battery. It then gives you a boost option which allows the app to clear all the stuff out.

I have found the results to be amazing. I am no longer looking to replace my phone as it performs a lot better and the battery is now back to lasting me all day.

Just type "360 security" into the google play store and its the app that comes out at the top of the list.

Maybe worth you giving it a try before committing to a new phone.
