Hi all, has anyone else recently had a massive reduction in their upload speeds without any communication from Plusnet ?

Some 2 weeks ago my upload speed was 16 now <2 , what a difference thought it was technical problems but contacted Plusnet customer care today and apparently it's in the contract.

Would be interested in others, Thanks in advance.

I have been with Plusnet over 18m, tried out 76 download from 38 briefly in Feb this year but change back to 38 as little advantage for £5 extra within days of changing.
There are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:

You shouldn't have had a speed reduction. New customers taking the 40Mbps top speed now only get 2Mbps up whereas it used to be upto 10Mbps. The full speed product (Fibre Extra) should still be upto 20Mbps upstream.

There are many similar complaints on the Plusnet Community Forum so I'd suggest you register there and ask for somebody to get your profile corrected.

Thanks for that nugget, looks like I'm not going to be a new customer of Plusnet then.

It's pretty poor that you have to hunt to find upstream speeds. I think that is probably true of many ISPs. It isn't hard to guess why though - seeding torrents 24x7 at full tilt is going to put a severe dent in their profit margin and the easiest way to put a cap on that without expensive deep packet inspection gear is to simply cap the upstream speed.

I've been on the 40/20 and renewed in May, and still have 40/20 (actually, as has been said above, profile is 80/20 but capped at 40/20)

Probably the cause is when you changed speed, when you went back to 38 they started a new contract on the lower upload speed which is now all they offer on the lower download speed.

But when did the PN change come into effect? OP tried 76 and went back to 38 in February 2016. So even if a new contract was engaged, the 2meg upload cap shouldn't have been applied, unless the cap was effective from February (and mentioned at that time).

Interesting thread, we're with plusnet too and although i've noted the odd drop in upload speeds previously, it was never below 10Mb.

    But today:

I get around 18mb upload on my mobile phone! If Tesco can handle data being uploaded at that speed there is no reason for plusnet not to be able to - they are a major ISP afterall.

Hardly seems like good honest broadband from yorkshire now does it... more like yorkshire folk are out to screw you!

What fibre are you on? FTTP or FTTC? Only reason i ask is maybe if its the latter contention is an issue. I will try again later this evening if i remember and see if i get any faster speed.

I'm a new (3 weeks) Plusnet customer and it was made very clear what my upload speed would be when signing up (1.9Mb/s).

This doesn't bother me much as the vast amount of my data traffic is downloading which I get at 36.5 Mb/s but I can imagine existing customers being annoyed about an unannounced reduction like this.
