I switched on the first day, received the confirmation email from MSE Club saying switch was on, but have heard nothing. Guess that's not a good sign and will now have to chase

I switched on 4th Feb, got an an email on 16 Feb to say welcome to British Gas. I should apparently have got an email with the terms & conditions which I didn't. I also had two gas accounts set up and one electric account. I emailed them to query it and apparently the first gas account was opened and closed in error. Sounds like this has happened to a few people. I've just got two emails today, both from Sainsbury's(my previous supplier) the first giving me my final balance - £10.00 in credit which it says is going towards my next bill. The second one is thanking me for my new direct debit details. I'm a bit confused. I had to sign into my Sainsbury's online account using my new British Gas login details. I know it's basically the same company but I'm a bit worried I'm going to end up on a different tariff to what I signed up for.
Update - just signed into my BG account and everything appears to be as it should, hopefully I'll be saving about £120 a year by switching, against a rise of about £300 if I'd stayed with Sainsbury's.

basketcase wrote: »Hi. I made the switch about a week ago. I've had the notification from MSE but nothing from BG yet. I'm expecting it to take a bit longer because I'm one of many bIut don't want to leave it too long before checking.
What do you think is a reasonable amount of time? If the figures are correct, I'm cutting my bills by about 40% so don't want to miss out...
Apologies for typos. I'm on my phone!

Hi all im new here so hope im writing this correct.. i did the switch to British gas about 2 weeks ago from EDF ive received several emails from British gas welcoming me saying the switch was going ahead, i havent heard from either EDF or British gas by phone or been asked for meter readings, i tried to log into my new British gas account online but kept telling me i couldnt, i phoned up British gas yesterday to ask for help logging in and was told my electric has moved over but not my gas, when i asked why they said EDF havnt approved it, so now ive got electric with British gas and gas with EDF what a pain... i asked what i should do and was told to ring EDF myself and ask them why,and maybe it was because i was in debt with them, i checked my latest statement from EDF which i received 2 weeks ago and im actualy in credit by £40. the whole point of the switch was to switch both gas and electric duel fuel.. what should i do, do i just wait a bit longer or should i call EDF myself ?? please help, has anyone else been through this. Thanks..0

Lisa, I have the same problem as you. Electricity has gone through fine but Gas has not.
I've spent this morning on the phone to British Gas. Not happy. First they told me that Eon had rejected their first application to switch me over. No reason given and since Eon had just credited my account with £117 it obviously wasn't because I was in debt. B. Gas said they had reapplied this morning.
Rang Eon - no trace of either application for gas switch from B Gas, although electricity switch has gone through fine.
Rang B. Gas again - 15 minute wait so logged on to online help to try that as well. Explained situation once again and was eventually called back and transferred to a department which has been especially set up to deal with this problem. Because apparently there IS a problem but getting them to tell me WHAT the problem was is impossible. I have transferred two properties and the other one has gone through fine.
Apparently I may get a call from the National Helpdesk who are aware of this problem.
The number to ring for this specific problem is 0800 975 9712. I am told that there will be no queue to get through. Hmmmm:mad:Ellie

Hi lisa 72, there are a few reasons your current supplier can stop the transfer of your supply and if you give our Collective Tariff Team a call on 0800 975 9712, I'm sure we'll be able to find out more. Alternatively if you'd prefer, pop your details on an email to talktous@britishgas.co.uk, including your MSE username & MSE Forums in the subject heading and I'll chase this up. Hi,
Everything seems to be back on track now. The gas has already been transferred, and the electricity is due to switch over early next month.
Hopefully everything will proceed smoothly. My thanks go to "British Gas Rep Matt" for his help with this.0 -

Oh I knew this was too good to be true. I remember the dreadful experience of switching to Sainsbury's aka BG for the last collective switch and really hoped they'd get their act together for this one. Oh dear, it seems not.
Now been asked twice for my opening meter readings by BG. They were submitted the first time, on the day after the email arrived. Email was sent by BG on 18th Feb asking me for meter readings so they are ready to start supplying me from 17th Feb!! Good start. Then another email from them today, 24th, telling me not to forget to put my meter readings in, even though they already are, 6 days ago.
Oh, and my switch comparison said I would pay £90 per month on my usage, and amazingly this has now crept up to £93 instead. Sneaky. I queried it and was told that by someone in a distant land that this may be a system error and could not be changed because they have already sent the DD details to the bank. Oh and under the Sainsbury's guise, I was in credit at the end of my account, so they refunded me some money and then realised that the switch (within the same company!) wasn't ready so now they want to take the money back by DD. Poor, poor, poor.0
