Have been on a deal for just 50mb broadband at £18.45pm. This ends in three weeks. Called to cancel last Sunday and was offered 70mb for around £35. Went through with the cancellation.

Had a call from retentions and was offered 70mb for £28. Declined their offer.

I have ordered BT Infinity for £29.99pm (36mb), no activation free, free new line install, £100 reward card and £75 Quidco cashback. Averages out at £20.27pm for the minimum term.

It looks like I'm going to go this BT route.

Been with Virgin (was Nynex) for about 20 years!

    BT Deal:
    £29.99 upto Fibre 52mb
    £9.95 activation.
No connection fee (need a line others are £20-£60)
    £125 reward card
    £80 quidco

Works out just under £20 a month.
Plus like the 200gb storage and wifi access points across uk. Will be nice at airports and at work.

    Current Virgin:

I was previously on 150mb @ £25 this went up to £28 a couple of months ago. Then £38 from next month.

Best they offered me when I called to cancel was £35 but think I will just go now as will have the flexibility to switch around in the future.

£39/ Month for 18 months with 12 months contract for Player TV, 100 mb internet and weekend phone calls via inbound cancellation team.

No fibre where i live so alternatives are poor..

Just rung virgin media to ask if they can put me on a better deal. They can - but it's still £15 more expensive than if I was a new customer. The call operative suggests I move to Sky and VM never reward existing customers (he said)?! I've been a customer for the last 15 years and don't really want to move but this has really hacked me off...

Anyone had this situation and got the new customer rates?

You will need to leave if you are out of contract .

And this is exactly why providers offer the best incentives to new customers. Most people don't/won't switch for whatever reason. As a business whose first priority is to make money, they are not going to willingly give you a service for cheaper if they are pretty convinced you won't leave anyway.

Doubtless I'll have to although it'll be a real pain with email addresses and telephone numbers. Sigh - the last time I rang (c.2 yrs ago) I was told they made a point of offering the same deals to existing customers as to new ones and I was so chuffed.

Gives me something to research over the next few weeks then - that always makes me happy!

    True enough.

My initial 12 month contract on 100Mbps broadband only was due to finish early December. I rang up and got them to agree to 200Mbps at £43 minus a £5 a month loyalty discount, plus I got a £50 credit up front. I negotiated the credit after they cocked up the original switch over to 200Mbps, instead just renewing my existing 100Mbps. It took several calls to sort out.

So anyway, it works out to £35.22 a month for 200Mbps only, the new customer offer is £37 a month, so not too shabby. Of course I'll be at the mercy of the price increases they seem to dish out every ten months - so I'll be calling again when that happens!

Just an update, I rang to cancel and was offered a number of discounts and incentives. I'll be paying £2 more than a new customer but will have an additional TiVo box for the DD and will be saving £23 per month so I'm happier now!

Does anyone have any recent experience of good deals for bb only ?

    I'm:
    - out of contract
    - previously on £26 per month for 50mb fibre broadband only
    - VM offered £29 per month for 50mb or £1 extra for 100mb
    - i gave my months notice

Does anyone have a feel for whether they'll go lower ?

Also i did wonder whether you're more likely to get a better deal if you're in their system as having given notice ? never had much luck with getting a callback from retentions as I think someone on here effectively said you tend not to when you're on fibre.
