I've just cancelled. Horrible to deal with. Aggressive. Uncompromising. Their retentions 'deal' was an increase of £1.50 per month and a drop of 20Mbps against my current tariff (£25/month for 70Mbps with no line rental). The customer adviser kept attacking the comparison between their service and their competitors' "Yeah, but it's not the same though. No. It's not the same. Other companies cannot offer what we offer. Other companies are no good for you. You download too much. Their speeds are too slow. Nobody can match our speeds. You're moving to an inferior product and you expect me to price match?". I spent ages on the phone just to get abused because I was cheeky enough to want to move to a competitor...

    Good bye. Good riddance.
  • Virgin media's upload speeds are shocking compared to their competitors. They can't argue when you mention that!

Just off the phone with retentions. Broadband only 70mb.was offered 19.99 for 12 months contract. Paying 18.25 atm with loyalty discount running out in February so I left it until February to see if they'll be keen to offer lower price. Retention man was cheeky saying all of the above about superiority of their product bla bla bla. My street !sť not enabled for fttc so I'm can't get fibre from BT etc. Well I'll see in February...

I might try again as I'm not sure they've actually processed my cancellation, and I'd probably keep Virgin at £19.99. Combinef with the new Sky offer, that would be £40.39/month for my current set-up, but with Sky Cinema on top. I'd be happy with that.

I have just rung VM for third time in the hope of reducing package price..been out of contract about 3 mths now.

Spoke to very nice lady this time who really wanted to help get price down but said system wouldn't allow it and came up with more expensive due to loss of loyalty bonus and that was downgrading my BB! She was pretty shocked herself and sympathetic when I told her I had been with VM since NTL World days and sorry that she could not help me.

I'm pretty disgusted really and would like to move elsewhere but do not have BT phone line and prob would not pass credit check with other companies. I will give notice to VM in the meantime and hope they come back with something reasonable before notice runs out. Presumably I could cancel termination if I need to?

I was feeling very pleased with myself after speaking to Virgin because our package costs was £64 a month for TV, Broadband and telephone etc. They agreed to put me on another deal for 18 months and tie in for 12 months and this would now be £59.00 a month. However to my horror just read that Virgin are increasing their prices and mine will cost another £3.49 a month from 1 November.

I am very pleased with the service we receive from them and they are so efficient taking their money by dd each month. Just brilliant!

That's not a good deal. New customers can get the Big Kahuna package including line rental for £49.99 for 12 months! If I were you, when you get notified of the price increase, use it as an excuse to get out of your new contract and tell them to shove it. I'll be doing likewise just shortly, because my £52 a month deal has just crept up over the past couple of months to £63 and that's before the impending biennial price rise.

You can get the Sky box sets and movies deal through the MSE link for £20 a month and go with the BT deal for your phone and broadband for about £32 a month all in.
  • Its a similar deal to what I was quoted, only I have M+ TV and XL Phone (inc mobiles) at £52.99

I personally feel that to get a better deal, like the £36.99 or similar prices you really need to properly cancel and let them call you back a couple of days before termination. Next time I'll try that, but I didn't have the guts to go through with it this time as I rely on my Internet connection for work.

Paying £72.48 for Big Kahuna (although with boosted 200Mb speed).
I was annoyed to see the new customer offer at £49.99 so rang to cancel and they offered me a rubbish £7 discount at the expense of being tied into an 18 month contract... So I told them to cancel it. I'd have probably accepted if not for the contract. I don't really want to leave or downgrade too much, just hate paying so much.

How much leeway do these call centre reps have with discounting?
    Internet earnings:
    Swagbucks - £748
    InstaGC -£73
    Nielsen Mobile - £70
    Mobile Trends - £19.50
    iPoll - £15

Are you sure it was an 18 month contract? Last few times I've had a deal with them it was 12 months for the new contract, but the loyalty discount (or part of it) would remain valid for 18 months.
