With respect, Matt, the noun 'widow' is female.

    Widowers are male. ;)

You're right, my apologies. It sincerely wasn't the intention and I have tweaked the title to account for it.

My point was tongue-in-cheek, I did know how you meant it. :)

I have to say I'm probably more interested in football than my husband - and I'm an ex-player too.

We've got the flags and bunting up and the husband dons a different shirt, from his sizeable collection, for every game.

At least he isn't living in cloud cuckoo-land when he says he believes his team can go "all the way" - he supports Germany :j

    Photogenic Debt-free and Proud!
    Love it! Absolutely love it.

I watch it whenever it's on, particularly if it's a good team. I'll listen to it on the radio if not. When at work, I'll either have it on my computer or get updates text to me. The other half will no doubt be thankful of my piece for the next few weeks.

My husband is moderately interested in football and I am interested when its a big tournament like this one. We have had almost all the matches on the TV but have only paid serious attention to the English, Welsh and Irish games. Mind you, we did watch the Spain/Croatia match tonight, it was a good game.

And I'm also very lucky I'm not a football widow. My other half isn't interested in football in the slightest!

I used to be mega-interested in football - I can still name the 1966 England squad and remember the final vividly.
As well as Celtic winning the European Cup and Manchester United doing the same the following year.

But my interest has waned over the years as a result of the overpaid, self-important, cheating players that seem to exist in the football world nowadays.
After watching the Italy v ROI match last night I now know why I'm disillusioned.
Italian players executing half-nelsons that Mick McManus or Jackie Pallo would have been proud of.
And some Italian player who fell to his knees clutching his face when clearly neither the ball or any players had been anywhere near him.

I really don't get the obsession.. we run this way after a bag of wind.. and then we run back again... for what? 90 minutes is it?? I honestly cannot see the point.
The comical thing is they CAN'T run for 90 minutes. Have you ever seen them training - stepping over a few cones!

And why do all those who claim to be football supporters, always associate it with alcohol. Rather sums up the whole thing - a bunch of overpaid, unfit, 'prima donnas', performing in front of alcohol driven mugs who spend a fortune keeping these businesses going. Good luck to them. I prefer to watch the paint dry in the room I have just decorated!
    Bye for now,
    Paul
