Loss of credit account with good credit

Hi,
I myself have a poor credit rating due to previous relationships leaving with me to clear up debt of which I currently pay debt agencies per month.
My partner of which we are not married (yet) has always had a A1 credit rating with having accounts and 4 car finances all paid for with out missed payments all her adult life.
We went on that Clear Score and registered to see our credit scores, and were both not surprised at what we both got back.

I had 3 reds; A couple of accounts in default, not on the electoral roll and having no credit card.
My partners was 1 red; no credit card.
Since, I have now gone on the electoral roll and have a Capital One credit card of which should turn 2 of the reds to green.

This is where things turn strange.....................
My partner has a Next account of which in about 4 years of having it, never missed any payments on it.
Yesterday, she received an email from them saying that her account was suspended because of information that they had received from Experia.
What info could this be as she has never defaulted on anything and I was guessing that since I am now on the electoral roll, that they have found me linked with my partner as my ex defaulted on her Next account and I was also pulled into it for signing for her parcels.

If this is the case, can Next do this to my partner as the debt from Next is not linked to my partner and as she has always kept a mint account with Next, Next have no ammo to use against her as she is a proven loyal customer.

What are your thoughts and what can she do as she is gutted that she may lose other accounts and her credit go down purely because of my past and me trying to improve mine.

Yes, they can close the account.

What joint financial products do you have? Electoral roll won't link you - that deals with addresses.

She also obviously needs to check her Experian credit file for a start.
  • We have nothing joint but it is wrong as they are penalising a good customer that has never missed any payments.
She has basically said, bollox to them now, if they reactivate her account she will close it down as that's the thanks she gets because of her brilliant custom.

That's great and all, but she really needs to check her Experian file if something on there has caused them to close her account, as you're not financially linked.

    Hi Kamzter,

Are you and your ex still linked financially? If not then it is highly improbable that Next has found this (quite long winded) connection. Signing for parcels will have absolutely no connection - you must have financial connection, which means you must have/ had joint credit. That doesn't necessarily have to be the Next account, if you and your ex had any joint credit (i.e. a joint bank account) then you could have a financial connection. If you are your current partner have anything joint the same thing will happen so it is possible for credit files to influence each other in this way.

Has your partner spoken to Next and asked them what the issue is that has caused her account to be suspended? It could be the case that if you have both been updating information, this could affect the information on your credit reports and prompt a review of the account - i.e a review of the credit limit - there really is a lot of guess work here.

I agree with zx81, check Experian and talk to Next before making any assumptions and then see where you both are,

This is good, this will evidence a good record.
Yesterday, she received an email from them saying that her account was suspended because of information that they had received from Experia.
    Is it really suspended?
Have you/she tried to log in to the account?

If this in bold/underlined is not a typo error, is it a phishing email?

As said by PPs, this does not link you.

Yes, Next can do this if they choose, the same as your OH can cancel their account if they wanted to, no questions asked.
    What are your thoughts

You need to find out the facts. If it is indeed a legitimate email, why has the account been suspended? Next may be trying to protect their customer's account. They wouldn't do it without, what they believe to be, good cause.

  • She needs to log into her next account and check if it's genuine. There have been a lot of phishing emails recently for next accounts I know because I got one-they tell you the account is suspended and to click the link but luckily I saw through it - worth checking?
