We'll find out next year. If the people wish her to remain in post. Or whether public opinion is against her policies. Like the UK there's increasing polarisation of views. The EU's primary aims were to create stability in post war Europe. Currently seem to be creating the opposite. With nationalism and independence (of states) rising to the fore.

I agree with this, the EU needs to acknowledge that there is an issue but IMO this is more to do with external immigration INTO the EU than with internal EU migration.

Anyway, regarding Merkel she is still a democratically elected leader. Sapphire seems to think she is something else.

No idea what you are expecting. Either Leave will have convinced the majority or it will not.

It would be nice if there was conclusive proof that the man arrested yesterday was simply insane, and that his associations with white supremacist organiations was just a symptom of his insanity.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

I very much doubt it does, and certainly hope that is the case.

The world press and social media include some tenuous observations on the matter.

    As I say tenuous

Out lost any momentum the minute someone killed an MP shouting 'Britain first'.

I fear you are right and I have to admit conspiracy theories did cross my mind when I heard the witness describing the shouts. No doubt no politicians will say anything directly....
    I think....

It is being reported by journalists that Mair is to be charged under terrorist legislation which if true means politically motivated. It is easy to see a conspiracy I agree.

It is a shame that too few people recognise there are two groups of immigrants.
    1) EU free movement who come to the UK legally
    And
    2) economic/conflict immigrants from outside the EU.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

The 77,000 recent arrivals to the UK from the EU who did not have a job to go to must look like low hanging fruit to the Remain team for a response.

It wouldn't mark a dramatic shift in EU principle to say that people need an economic plan to move within the EU on a permanent basis. That usually means the ability to sustain oneself financially or a job which enables you to do that.

It would show a "listening, more caring, EU" as well ;)

77,000 recent arrivals to the UK who did not have a job.
    CODSWALLOP.

please explain where in heavens name you get this figure AND it's make up. ? No children, no trailing partner of Ex pats.

I live in Luxembourg. Whenever an expat arrives = 1 person with a job. They then have two or three children and a trailing partner = 3 or 4 people with no Job.

Consider the young French Girl coming to study in the UK. = no job

Consider the young German man wanting to improve his English who WILL work in Macdonalds but arrives with = no job

    Etc
    Etc
    Etc.

    Edit,
Actually I am horror struck by the misunderstanding of the world by so many people that will cast their vote not knowing the real facts.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

Sounds like they would need to be earning in the top quintile in the UK not to be a net drain on the exchequer with that dependency ratio...but of course net migration increases gdpso politicians are happy and it is only individuals who care about gdp per head.
    I think....

I dread to think what would happen to gdp per head in Luxembourg if Brexit weere followed by the unravelling of the EU....
