There is a £5 monthly fee now but if you pay your utilities council tax and other things I cant remember by direct debit through them it pays cashback that may cover all or at least most of this fee. It is very straightforward to apply, you only have to pay in £500 per month. They dont ask for any proof of income, at least they didnt ask me. I am very happy with it. Also broadband I think, Dh pays that so not sure of that. I will look on my account and tell you what cashback I get.

£5 per month charge on Santander123 current account. Pays 3% interest up to £20,000. Anything above, no more interest.

Pays 1, 2 and 3% on certain utility bills, cant remember which off hand.

At the end of the year, you can earn more leaving £20,000 in there than an ISA at the moment.
Hmm, looks like I need to have another look at this one. At the moment utilities etc come out of the joint Club Lloyds account but could maybe move something. Even if I just park £20k in there and add the £500 into the monthly shuffle, I guess I'd still earn £540 (3% = £600 less £60 in fees)?

Unfortuntely the schwartz packs didn't glitch :( Really odd as showing as though they should. Still, only cost me 19p after wombles and they are going to a good home.

hornet girl, I got nearly £3 for 2 utility payments plus council tax. Not sure why it says 2 for the utilities but may be for gas and electric although I pay them together (same company)

Anything above can go into Tescos current account which has no fee and pays 3% also.
  • Lots of 1-2-3 chat....

If you have £20K saved per month and don't use the 123 utility cashback aspect you will still get an equivalent rate of approx 2.75% after deduction of £5 fee, however...............

1-2-3 rate will be dropping to 2% in the next 3 months meaning an equivalent of 1.7% after fee so therefore still attractive, but not as attractive.

All this talk of interest rates and accounts has got me thinking...

When was the last time you visited your bank?

its months ago for me as we do everything online but there must be people who still go to them,or maybe not....we've just taken out a new mortgage and the whole process was online,on the phone and by post so it does seem that the days of the high street branch might be numbered....its a shame really but I guess a sign of the times.
