Tuesday - Errant son set off for Scotland on the early train, 3 hour trip. His interview wasn't until the afternoon but there was just one cheap train in the morning so that had to be it.
Tuesday was gorgeous so he had a nice day exploring, had a Greggs breakfast, went to a few museums, found Weatherspoons etc
Then he was supposed to get the tram to the interview place but as it was downhill and a nice day he walked there instead.
The actual interview only took 45 mins but it all seemed to go well and it was even more perfect then on the job description.
Afterwards he walked back into town as he said he would rather use the tram money to get a pint of Magners in Weatherspoons and as he had a bit of spare time he also got a steak dinner.
Then we got an urgent message for Oh to ring him.
Errant sons train going back south had been cancelled as there was a signal fire. Virgin had put on a rail replacement bus but as there was 2 train loads of people all going to Carlisle they also had to put on taxis so fortunately Errant son got one of the taxis.
On the train the distance between Edinburgh and Carlisle does not seen that far but in a taxi the journey goes on forever.
I tweeted Virgin checking on train times and connections and fortunately by the skin of his teeth the taxi with Errant son in got to Carlisle in time to catch the last train doing a straight route home (otherwise it would have been another bus or taxi)
And finally we picked up Errant son from the station at 11.30 - having been out of the house since 6.30.

Errant son very happy despite it taking 5 and a half hours to get home as he has done Delay Repay, he should get his train fayre for the return leg refunded so his only cost was £14.50 for the morning train
I put the tenner he gave us for board back into his wallet so that covered some if his Weatherspoons spend.

So all of that on Tuesday, 8.5 hours travelling for a 45 min interview and even then he didn't get this job ....

Oh mhoc....I do so feel for Errant....it can't be easy having very commendable qualifications and qualities for the jobs he's applying for only to be turned down.

It goes without saying that travelling round the country can't be easy for him with limited funds just to attend an interview where potentially the role is already earmarked for someone else.

It's a practice I believe I've seen quite a few times when OH has applied for promotions....they have their "person in mind" but in fairness they apparently need to interview a few others too....all too often the job goes to the preferred candidate.
I think sometimes some very capable people are overlooked because of an inhouse promotion or appointment.

good on Errant for staying positive and here's hoping it won't be long before he gets the break he deserves.

a pet hate is this - when you email or message a company with a query and they just reply with a cut and paste response having not even bothered to read your query.

Waitrose are usually very good at responding to queries via messaging them via their FB thread so I asked them this morning if they stocked the Fuel Quark pouches in our little Waitrose - the ones on shoppimum.

I got a reply thanking me for my suggestion and it would be passed onto their buyers team - what???

Obviously a cut and paste reply

    So I've tried again

I also noticed that up and go are new on COS this morning which was coincidental after talking about them earlier in the week. But you have to get them from Sainsbury's where they are £1.20 - 80p or £1 in Asda and Tesco.
    So I am not.
I drew down on my COS accounts this week so the balances all stand at £0

Annoyed I missed the one day wonder of the kettle chips - I even had a conditional spend to use but it was the day I was out this week. Pity really as these would have been good for the food bank collection.

wasnt on my account anyway, so you may not have missed it,if it wasnt offered
