I know what you mean about mentioning everything. The trouble is the assessment form seems to be a sort of multiple choice tick list and its very selective as to what info they want to know - quite what whether my DIL needs help to take her medication has to do with whether she can physically get around Bristol without a car is beyond me. They seemed more interested in her mental state than her physical problems. When they allocated her a car 4 years ago she was more mobile than she is now and she will almost certainly get worse year by year . Its a case of moving goal posts I guess.

It is awful tbw I am glad they are getting some good support. Mr TS's mate has parkinsons and he will not get any better, it was very stressful when he was going through his application again. :(

I am sure the way some forms are written is to catch people out. :o

They have appealed but have been told it could take several months to be dealt with as so many people are in the same boat. They have got their doctors full support and have also met up with someone from an advisory group who seems to have links with the local MP's office. Trouble is, the car has already been taken away so they are pretty stuffed as they can't get very far without transport. DH and I are really worried and have today bought another car which we intend lending them until such time as their appeal is dealt with. Hopefully, they will get a car back but if it all goes T'S Up then they can keep my car. If they do get reinstated then I will have a rather nice little Venga for sale.

I'm just glad that we are in a position to help out - but how on earth can it be right that 2 people who have very limited mobility can quite suddenly have the mat whipped out from under them and be left nearly housebound. Even shopping is going to be near impossible as neither can carry more than a small bag of stuff when walking. The system is seriously flawed.

Not really - it's just that it's better that they have it now when it's really needed rather than wait a few years till I am pushing up the perishing daisies ! And it will be a bit less for dss to pinch off me if I need residential care. (jeez - I seem to be in a morbid mood tonight but I'm just trying to be realistic)

Wonder if we will have a glitch on mullers? 10 for £3 from morries from tomorrow

The apg has not picked up M Müller multi for as long as I can remember :(. It would need to inease the multi in A then have triggers to glitch?

It is one of the oldies, would be great to have it back.

I noticed in A that H&S is back up to £4.97 for 500ml, so hopefully a sign that a 3 for £10 multi is on the way.

Right, I'm off to bed now. I know, very early for me but struggling with a cold/cough that keeps coming and going, and had asthma attacks a few times over last few days. Plus taking extra painkillers so drowsy

So will say goodnight, kind folks

As always, I would say Brugge. If you do end up going, let me know and I can suggest a lovely hotel, and places to visit.

If you want to go somewhere less obvious what about Copenhagen or Stockholm or even Oslo? Copenhagen in particular is small and very easily manageable in 3 days, masses to do.
Also look at airbandb for accomadation.

There was a series called Rick Steins long weekend which might be on iplayer still but that will give you masses of ideas for weekend places with nice food, things to do, pottering about etc

Eldest child had exactly this problem - BF has a big birthday in March :D and its being over shadowed by the wedding so she has booked them a long weekend in early April in one of the above cities.
She used travel zoo as she has a works discount, found a deal through BA which worked out much cheaper than separately booking flights and hotel herself

Does anyone have any knowledge of how ss benefits are affected if someone is awarded compensation for an accident ? The company concerned has taken responsibility for re-imbursing the past 3 years benefits which were paid while the claim was being processed and then my son will receive compensation directly. However there is no immediate prospect of him going back into employment as the works injury is no better and without major surgery its not likely to improve so he will remain registered disabled - advice on whether he will still be able to claim benefits is all a bit vague. The payout is not enormous but it is enough to ease his situation if he still gets benefits but if the benefits are stopped and he is expected to live on his compensation then he and his family will be much worse off than they are now ! There was a suggestion that the payout could be held in trust and that he could just draw a bit out now and then.

I wondered if anyone had any experience of a similar situation.

Trusts are not my thing but I presume your son is in the esa support group and doesn't need to sign on. In which case provided he has paid the right NI contributions (the 3 years he was claiming he would have had contributions credited to his account) therefore he can claim ESA contributions based which doesn't have a saving limit. If he needs to use any of the compensation to pay for household upgrades or adaptations if he does so within 6 months of receipt then the money spent is exempt. If this then takes him below savings threshold then he will be entitled to both contributions based esa and an income top up.
I know nothing about tax credits so can't help there. If your son is going to be left 'registered disabled' strangely there is no register to go on but claiming personal independence payment or PIP is seen and used as being registered disabled..

phoning the benefits agency for advice is like pulling teeth as there are no cut and dried rules and what one advisor says is not binding as it is just their interpretation of the laws.
The Decision maker guide they are meant to use to apply decisions is available to read online.
to consolidate then yes he will get ESA support group payment regardless of savings and also pip which it sounds like he could qualify for. PIP is a gateway to getting working tax credits either for himself or his wife if she works.
    Hope that is some help.
