    Good afternoon Elite

Never mind that, you'd have to explain cassette players to some lol. We had a tape recorder too. Reel to Reel

And after that came a long lead with a button on the end to switch channel, so you didn't have to get up :rotfl:

I love these crisps but without putting the salt on them

I'll say paper knickers from Bainbridges in Newcastle

Talking about kids having phones, youngsters have it so easy these days when dating. When I was in my later teens, no chance of contacting anyone by phone as not everyone had them. We didn'y have a house phone, and yes it was a party line with our neighbour, till I was in my twenties, so if you met a boy and arranged to meet him the next evening/week and your train was late, etc, or his was, that was it, you lost contact, and the chance of a great romance was gone lol. I often think about how things might have worked out different in a few situations if we'd had phones

Rhos, hope your sore throat improves quickly

Snap, glad you're getting out and about a bit now

tweets, you've moved off your 3 stone 3.5 again, well done, but well done anyway for sticking around your target for so long

OMG, we had a TK20 reel to reel, we formed our own band and sang into the mic :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: We must have been about 7 or 8:eek:

Someone sent me this and its so true
I grew up on the streets of XXXXX Northamptonshire ,during a time when everyone treated each other like Family:DWe went outside to play on streets, build dens and make tree swings , we got dirty, bathed, on a Sunday with your siblings we didn't eat fast food....we ate council food, beans on toast jam sandwich , proper home made food ,and chips cooked in a proper chip pan! we got ice cream from Mr Galone when my mum was flush, otherwise a choc ice from freezer.
I played rounders, garden hopping , Kerby , Hide and Seek, british bulldog and ding dong dash , There was no bottled water , we drank water from the tap , we shared the same bottle of pop... After we'd wiped it with our mucky sleeves, We only ad kids tv after school ,we rode our bikes for hours .
There was no such thing as a mobile or any other electronic device .
We wern't AFRAID OF ANYTHING. If someone had a fight, that's exactly what it was... a fist fight. Kids didn't have guns or knives.
The street lights were our curfew or until our mum shouted us. School was mandatory .
We watched our mouths around our elders because we knew we'd get a clip. Sayings like "What's for tea?" your guaranteed reply was !!!!!! with sugar on (cherry on top if ur lucky) "where's mum?" Run off with a black man would be the answer. Nothin was too PC back then , that you came from a close knit community and you will never forget where you came from!
I saw this and thought how true are these things are:T:T

I remember the black and white minstrel show, just thought it was a good show, didn't even occur to me it might be racist:eek:

    afternoon all

Gosh its been a day for nostalgia. I think I missed anything trend setting in the 60s or 70s - my parents only came to the UK in the 40s and 50s, money was non existent and they applied the same sort of parenting skills as if they were still living at the back of beyond small town Ireland. I was obnoxious and rebellious as a result and must have given them a terrible life.
I was working as a Saturday girl in Mr !!!!!! at 14, at which point my mother thought I had enough money to be able to cloth myself - I think I was on £2 a week.
I had this dreadful polyester dress from C&A - my mothers favourite department store she went all the way to Wolverhampton to get to - it was green on the bottom and yellow on the top - the dreadfulness of it was imprinted on my brain forever.

Saturday jobs, there's another thing. I started in the ABC Bakery, and moved on to Littlewoods where I got nearly twice as much money.
