Someone sent me this and its so true
I grew up on the streets of XXXXX Northamptonshire ,during a time when everyone treated each other like Family:DWe went outside to play on streets, build dens and make tree swings , we got dirty, bathed, on a Sunday with your siblings we didn't eat fast food....we ate council food, beans on toast jam sandwich , proper home made food ,and chips cooked in a proper chip pan! we got ice cream from Mr Galone when my mum was flush, otherwise a choc ice from freezer.
I played rounders, garden hopping , Kerby , Hide and Seek, british bulldog and ding dong dash , There was no bottled water , we drank water from the tap , we shared the same bottle of pop... After we'd wiped it with our mucky sleeves, We only ad kids tv after school ,we rode our bikes for hours .
There was no such thing as a mobile or any other electronic device .
We wern't AFRAID OF ANYTHING. If someone had a fight, that's exactly what it was... a fist fight. Kids didn't have guns or knives.
The street lights were our curfew or until our mum shouted us. School was mandatory .
We watched our mouths around our elders because we knew we'd get a clip. Sayings like "What's for tea?" your guaranteed reply was !!!!!! with sugar on (cherry on top if ur lucky) "where's mum?" Run off with a black man would be the answer. Nothin was too PC back then , that you came from a close knit community and you will never forget where you came from!
I saw this and thought how true are these things are:T:T

Was that when Bainbridges was in Market Street, before they moved to Eldon Square Binns took it over? I remember going for tea there and models would walk round the cafe showing off clothes. My aunty used to work in the 'furs' department there - that's something you don't see now.
    .

OMG yes, I forgot that :rotfl:

Thank you 3Dogs I had a good time at Christmas eating stuff I shouldn't ;) but since then I have been more or less good .

How are your furbabies ? Poppy not liking the cold today she didn't stay out long and no roly poly in back garden she came in and roly poly on rug lol :D

Lol at Poppy :rotfl: Well Berry loves the cold so no problem other than keeping house warm enough for me and Noela but cool enough for him. Another disturbed night for me last night. Noela wanting in garden several times but at 3 am I heard her playing in the lounge with the bit of scrunched up paper I'd put down for her. She doesn't play often and rarely if I am watching so would have stopped if I had gone through to lounge, bless her, she is still learning to let go and be a dog :happyhear

Just saved 25% on my National Express coach tickets for next week with my NUS Extra card. Spoke to my sis at lunch still has a slight fever but has been walking up and down the corridor today which is good.

3Dogs, you've really got me thinking since you mentioned paper knickers!!

Yes, you had to have those, a 'Loveable' bra, 'Aristoc' tights -either Brandysnap or American Tan, worn with a suede mini-skirt, a maxi coat, jockey cap and vinyl boots:cool::cool: all damned uncomfortable!

I remember coming home from school, I must have been 6 or 7, and Mam wasn't there. My much older cousin was there to look after us. This was so unusual as Mam was aaaaaalways there (she didn't work). When I asked cousin 'where's Mam?' she said 'she's run off with the milkman' and I cried as I believed her :o
Mam was actually ill, and at hospital

Eek this reminds me of once when at Grammar School, probably year 3, so I was 13, and one girl fell from the climbing bars on wall and broke her arm, with bone sticking out. Teacher told me to run the tell teachers room to get help and ambulance. Gym was at one end of school, the furthest away from teachers room. So I had to run through the corridors, into main building, up the stairs and knock on their door, then run back - all in my PE vest and navy knickers  I was so embarrassed :o:o

Awe Noela that fetched tear to my eye.

Chloe my Irish Terrier never played.

Poppy loves playing and running around the house like a loon

I also get disturbed every night could be anytime but only once.

If I pretend to be asleep I got to get up eventually.

Poppy throws herself into my back glad I am under duvet jumps off bed goes to door then keeps repeating it til I get up she then goes out and decides after toilet she will have a run around garden then when I go out she will run in and straight back upstairs to bed. :D
