That is very true. At one point we were 2 weeks from losing the house. But now we have the mortgage paid and have some cash behind us, it is a lovely feeling but I still remember the hard days and act accordingly.

I think that is part of the reason why my cupboards tend to be very well stocked, because they were more or less bare then and there was times when I fed the kids at one time telling them I was eating with their father, then fed OH when he got home telling him I had eaten with the kids. The problem was almost entirely caused by my stepmother, knowing her it was almost certainly intentional, but we got through when OH gave up on the business for a short while and got a contract.

So we try to help when we can, there but for the grace of God and all that.

    Fingers crossed

I've been pondering on the plight of homeless people ever since going to the Streetcat event last week and have continued to fret after reading what TM wrote about her experience in Leeds.
During the interview James Bowen was asked about the best way to help homeless people - was it by donating to a charity like Shelter, giving money direct etc. His reply was that it wasn't for him to say as people should make their own decision. Then he added, almost inaudibly "but something to eat is always welcome."
Do Boots still do the O2 meal deal on a Monday? It would be the easiest thing in the world to get this and pass it on to someone who needs it more.
Could you also please repost the details of the Homeless Period charity TM. A womble or two would cover the cost of something to go in a little parcel

I couldn't SUBMIT DETAILS on mine till I opened it in a browser whatever that meant. Was yourwin on a hudl ?

Yes it was on a hudl. I dont know how to open it in a browser as i usually never use a tablet or phone. Enterprise helped me by suggesting putting the year first before the day and month and that worked. I could put all other details in ok but it just didnt like how I entered the date of birth

Braising steak ,beef bourgythingy and stew and dumplings tonight.
All done in the slow cooker and were delicious.
I can confirm that a £6.00 joint makes 3 decent size meals for 2 people and the offcuts for the dog.:T

DH and I had our DS at age 19/20, we have been so near to no money, not being able to pay the rent so many times! We always seemed to be lucky and the !!!!!! never actually reached the fan, thank goodness.
We are now a couple in our 60s, in a very modest 2 up 2 down terraced house, with, as of next week, no mortgage and no debt, and our cupboards are full. When we lived in our 'Cooncil hoose' our neighbour would have bought her son all of the then have to have you gifts for Christmas, my DH made a garage, I bought and cleaned second hand Fischer Price toys. I January we still had food in the cupboard and dear neighbour was doing the I'll eat later thing. She was still paying the catalogue for that Christmas in the following November.
