I wish I"d not looked at my emails now as its fired me up again.

Why do people just take advantage of your good nature and just assume things without bothering to check - there are dozens of ways of contacting people so why dont they just do exactly that ...

Eldest child has done an order and is having it delivered here, no idea when or how - no idea why she did not get it sent to future m-i-l house who is home more days a week than i am ...

She didn't ask or check that it would be Ok, just assumed. I don't know if its coming by Royal Mail or courier - if its RM at least they will hold parcels for a period and hopefully they will put a red card through the door. If its a courier then they only try to deliver twice before parcels get sent back. Or the courier might just dump it by the front door or in the garden in the rain as its not obvious that there is a porch. One neighbour is always out so parcels cant be left there and the other is mostly out as well.

Eldest child has just blithely ignored or forgotten that we are going to be away - deep sigh. Ive decided that this is her problem and not mine to sort out, if it gets sent back, then it gets sent back.

I think i need to go and do some therapeutic vegetable chopping in the kitchen

Exactly - there is no way we are going to pay for the missing years especially as I have a letter which says I had enough for full state pension.
I am going to write to them next month. Before I was pregnant I made sure I was doing enough hours and paying enough national insurance so i would get the full statutory maternity pay while i wasn't working. I also went back to work in between babies.
And it was correct at the time about the Home responsibilities and the time it stopped which was when your family allowance stopped
It probably wont make much difference but even so.
So as well as moving the state retirement date twice you then get swindled out of £20 a week when you finally do get a state pension
    Deep sigh

So only if I lived until i was over 80 would This make a difference"

I posted about this about three months ago as OH is in the same boat and they wanted several thousand to make up the £20 a week shortfall.
Given his health is not so grand at the mo it would be false economy for us as we are focusing on paying off any debts/mortgage and then after that a little downsizing to make things even better.
Just check they have enough home responsibilities on your account and if that is right it might not be worth the extra ...depends on your point of view I suppose - happy headaches lol xxx

very true, especially as Ive wound myself up about state pensions again.

Which are so far in the future for us now the dates have moved when I am trying to do future forecasts for the dread day OH has to retire I don't even include state pensions into the calculations ...

Arthien....I'm with mhoc on this one too....

Your bil could look at getting a policy with a black box, they can really bring down premiums too....but its one of those things that newly qualified drivers have to put up with I'm afraid....the premiums will reduce over time but dont put yourself at risk just to bring down a premium.

Our DS currently has no need for his car being at uni,and it is parked outside our house...both OH and I are authorised users on his policy but we dont use the car any more than if DS was at home in case there is the slightest hint of fronting.
It does seem that we are paying a large amount for it to be unused but in our mind its better to do that than risk prosecution in any way...
Before anyone suggests...sadly we can't put it off road as we don't have a driveway or garage.

I think if it feels wrong...it could end up going wrong for everyone involved.

Just a quick query for you hun. Is the car policy in your name or your husbands name? Or is it in your son's name with you as a named driver.
I ask as it is only fronting if you/hubby are the policyholder, but allow your son to be the main driver.

Have a look here. It explains it well.

  • DD passed test at 17 but sensibly chose not to buy a car till after Uni, so she was 21 when buying her first. It was a brand new Peugeot with 2 yrs free insurance in the deal and I put my old car in with a bit of cash as the deposit, then she paid the instalments herself.

Sounds extravagant but it actually worked out cheaper that way than buying an older car and paying hefty insurance. Not sure if similar schemes run now, but maybe worth a look?
