So I am now ready for frugal October...

I admit that I have done a basics shop this morning spending £15 but that is more to do with needing to replace the entire contents of the fridge freezer,,,so I have really started with milk, bread, cheese, eggs, some reduced meat items, veg and a a few treats.....

managed the squidgy soreen bites in A as well as 2 more presidents and am now wondering if I can get away with sending the bottle of wine to DS's halls address.....not that it means I would ever see it....he would no doubt class it as a gift.

Getting into mode it's stir fry for tea tonight instead of the usual takeaway .....so onward to October!

I meant to ask about this, are you counting spend towards COS items as spend, or is that zeroed as you'll be getting it back? I'm considering joining, but I'll have to ignore DH's work lunches, £10 for a beer and burger!

You need 16 papers from between 1st October and 4th December as well as 2000 points which you have to cash in by 8th December at the latest

If you bought every weekday paper from today to the 8th December you would have exactly 2,000 points. But that's 50 papers and you couldn't miss any at all

Unless you have points in a mail account already you're going to need codes from some weekend papers

edit: regarding free/cheap papers there are always coffee shops to scour, hipp MOC overage to take advantage of or you could answer the 1 in 3 multiple choice question every Sunday if you say your code is illegible. Some people even just take the codes from the papers on the newspaper stand without buying the paper at all

    Thanks for this! :T

I'll try looking into it a bit more when I get some breathing space this weekend. I think if it was a bigger turkey I might feel more inclined, but feeding 4-5 people sounds more like an overweight chicken to me :rotfl:

TBH...it's just something that a few of us have decided to give a go at in an attempt to reduce spending or even empty freezers etc....

You can set your own goal...mine is that between the 2 of us I will try to spend no more than £40(physical money) during the month on food and drink.

so whatever comes via cashback sites and CS or wombling isn't counted towards the total as its not actual money.
For us we would typically spend £10 per week on a takeaway so straight off those have to stop...so basically I'm going to attempt to feed us on the takeaway budget.

Please feel free to set a goal and give it a go....even if it just prompts people to look at other ways than save it may have helped.
Personally we have had some huge expenses recently and I just want to try and reclaim a bit of a grip on the credit card statements....so I guess it's also a case of me asking "do we need this really..."before I buy it.
Having said all that...in T this morning matey pirate bubble bath was reduced to 50p a bottle....so I bought 5...
frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

    2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend

Wondering how many post I've made Zippy. Do you know. I seem to be on here all the time, but spend all my time reading. No time to butt in haha. I don't work, but spend time caring for my mum and OH but a lot of that is just sitting with them, talking to them, being there for them, and looking on here inbetween that. Don't know how the workers manage to make so many posts

    Afternoon all!

Saw the Mail Turkey offer is back. Is there a way of getting cheap/free papers? I know some people get newspapers in Waitrose but I don't have a card yet and the whole thing confuses me to be honest :o I also only have access to Waitrose on weekdays from work, but would I need to get some weekend papers in order to have enough points? Any help gratefully received as both my parents and my in-laws are on extremely tight Christmas budgets this year, and I don't wish to pay for a turkey myself if I don't have to :D

If they send you an email, sign up to Mail Travel and get 300+ points for free x

Suits our lot though, as DD just won't have the same thing 2 days running, she'll probably get beef for Boxing Day and my days of being creative with leftover turkey are long gone...

I'll have a go at £50, but I really fancy Chinese so I might have to cram it in tonight so it won't count :rotfl:

And pirate bubble bath isn't generally considered edible so you're all good there ;)
