Just spotted this on the MSE twitter feed
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/savings/2016/09/regular-savers-rates-cut?utm_content=bufferc0d66&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
Why did no one sound the alarm?
the 3 best monthly savers have dropped their interest rates for new people from 6% to 5% - current ones are locked in for 12 months.
I suppose its still better than nothing and if you are starting to save for the first time the First Direct one is still one of the best. First Direct you can set up yourself via your online account, very easy. Marks though you have to set up via a phone call and the application process takes ages.
I have a FD 6% saver that finished 22nd September but the interest is not added yet. Maybe will be added today. So will renew that one online and hopefully keep the 6% rate for another year.
Am in the process of opening a M&S account. Got as far as sending back my signature and have an account number etc but not the online log in details yet. Wondering if I go to M&S and ask them if I can open a 6% account today will be doable, as am useless on the phone. Also, will take my bank account details that I want to switch to M&S and maybe they can do that for me as I believe you have to do that on the phone too. Nothing ventured, nothing gained I suppose.
So that's my jobs for today
Morning all :wave:0 -
I was very late to the party, I think this is only my 2nd year with First Direct - my switching bonus never went in and I only realised a month or so later so I rang them to check and it was added the same day
Ooh. I miss read your post. I thought you were on about their good regular saver account. Not the switching aspect. Apologies.0 -
Happy birthday Poppy. Woof woof and waggy tails from Tessa

Morning all
this is strange - when my First Direct year finished the interest was in my account next day. I would give them a ring now to find out what has happened.
On my anniversary day I rang them up and the contents of the expired account were transferred to my current account - I got £117 in interest :T so a significant sum in this age of poor interest rates.
I said I would like to start my new monthly saver and the girl said that there was 2 ways - over the phone which would take ages because she would have to read out all of the terms and conditions etc or online where I could do it al myself very simply - its in the left hand side menu.
I suppose if you get stuck you can always ring them again
Again give Marks a ring - make a pot of tea to start with because this one will be a very long job. I would imagine that armed with your account number it should all be possible to do.
For the monthly savers they check that you are a switcher and also that you have your two DDs set up“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
I haven't been reading the thread very much lately so apologies if this is a repeat.
Boots have a men's flash sale today. I think some of the stuff is a good deal.
Just bought 12 of the Boots men's antiperspirant at 40p each. My men's toiletries stocks are very low.RISEABOVEHATE

I did start a switch with HSBC about 3 weeks ago but it has dragged on so long now I think I am going to cancel.
Firstly they said I would get a call within 3 days which never happened and then finally a letter arrived with just standard info and then finally another to say id been accepted.
Then last week I had a letter asking for my signature which I sent off
Today I had a letter to say if I'd not sent off the documents required they would assume I was not interested and cancel - what documents? They only asked for a signature
so now I just give up and if anything else arrives I will ring them“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -

OMG - am I really that gobby - that is shaming - I have not even really got that much to say and I disappear off for days or weeks on end when RL gets in the way which is has done this year ...“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove.
