I think I'm all set for frugal October. I haven't been out and bought anything at all today. For things like COS items, I'm going to include the net amount of cash ie after cashback, in my spends for the month. As a general rule I don't buy too many of these anyway, so hopefully not too much impact. My £40 has to cover all breakfasts and dinners, lunch every day for me and three or four days a week for DH, depending on what he's doing. Cat food isn't included as Jasmine has her own separate budget and is just spending what she always does lol. I'm looking forward to using up some of the accumulated packets of "stuff" of various stripes in the kitchen cupboards. We may be eating a lot of Paul Hollywood bread
My normal budget for groceries is £125 per month, although I only actually spend that much about twice a year. All excess goes into our holiday fund, which is a great incentive for me.0 -

the paul hollywood stuff will be making a big appearance here too...as will the swartz spices which will I think flavour most things be that meat or roasted vegetables...I've also got quite a few free from pasta sauces which were reduced to 13p a while back so I am expecting meals to feature those....for some reason ainsley harriott seems to also have a fair few packets of cous cous in the cupboard and I've no idea how or when I bought them or if indeed they were free...but still in date so for the next month food is a surprise with a bit of pot luck thrown in for good measure.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Well, October tomorrow and I haven't shopped in advance, so everything here is as it was when I said I'd sign up. Best do a sort of stock take, I think. Freezer has lots of random and unlabelled packages, so be good to use all those up...“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0

I don't know whether you know about this website LEJC (and other frugal October people too of course)
http://cheap-family-recipes.org/index.html
It was developed by a group of MSErs a few years back now. Some of the numbers are probably a bit out of date by now but there are some tasty (and easy) things there.0 -
Good luck then to all my October buddies....

a quick trip to Aldi and I've restocked on receipts for the apps :j
I also realised on Q clicksnappy the free milk is still live and one of the acceptable stockists of milk is Aldi so on my recs I found 4 - my payment for tidying up Aldi :T“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. good luck to those on the October challenge - I would not know where to start
I have though restarted my spends chart this month, September so at least I am keeping an eye on what is going out.
I budget on £40 a week, £160 a month for 2 of us. About 75% now is from Aldi with other odds and ends from the other supermarkets, mainly Morrisons and some cashback items.
we are virtually never in the right time and the right place for yellow labels and even then the reductions are paltry and very rarely anything we would actually buy.
Amazingly I did manage a yellow label shop in Marks of all places, not dirt cheap but a lot of useful reduced meat which has made a nice difference to the menu
I lost the entire contents of the freezer after we got back from hols in August but I've not made much effort to do a total restock.
I also gave about 2 large bag for life's full of store cupboard essentials to errant son before he set off down south so the cupboards are not over stuffed now
I do need to do more freezing down of apples and rhubarb from the garden and to have a baking day and do some things like flan bases so I can do my own cheese and onion flans and home made tray bakes now I have to extra space.
and the cats also have their own budget of £10 a week“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
