cjj....I guess first off you need to do a realistic budget for everything that needs doing then add on a contingency fund of maybe 20%...whilst you know about some things that need replacing, you will uncover others that need doing as you go along.

I must admit I found it a very stressful time doing the first renovation, but it was my old family home too so there was added sentimentality too...after we did it I swore we would never get involved in anything like it again and told my family to keep me away from rightmove....and 4 years on I am still logging on to the site and being very tempted by what I see!

Seriously though if you do need any advice I'm more than happy to give a few pointers...but be warned it does become a bit addictive!!!!

Many many years ago we flipped 8 houses in 2 years, living in each house as we renovated them... gradually we slowed down, and our next house took 2 years to do. Only moved once since and that was 20 years ago!

I strongly recommend having money before hand... we started our build with £500 in the bank :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: insanely stupid!

Following on from the house-buying posts, could anyone explain how porting a mortgage works when buying a more expensive house? I've read loads of articles and I'm just finding it incredibly confusing! We've got a mortgage meeting next month and I'd like to go there with a good idea of what I'm talking about, or at least a good impression of it :o

I was reading something on the housing board about this yesterday will see if i can find it

Boiler installed :) tomorrow is 'cleaning the pipes & radiators' which can last from 1 hour to 8 hours  It seems you have to make sure there is no muck any where to contaminate the boiler as it will invalidate the warranty :)
I might get a bath tomorrow............

Went for lunch with friends & then spent what I thought would be 5 minutes pruning the Mugger Clematis, that turned into 3 hours but at least pedestrians are now safe :)

    :T:T Glad its sorted xx

Morning all, we're also joining the Sept hols, going to France for 10 days from 31st Aug. Just hope we get some nice weather. I've ordered the halifax clarity card as Martin recommends this to be the best way of getting cash out....hope its true!!
We have a Clarity card too. We've never used it to withdraw cash but have used it lots of times for purchases. You get a good exchange rate as they use the bank rather than the tourist rate and there are no charges for foreign currency transactions (this last bit might not be true for cash withdrawals, I think it depends where you make the withdrawal.)

    Morning.

Can someone help regarding ocado order please?
I have ordered a posh bottle of fizz for a gift with 2 cheaper wines to get the multi discount. Just had delivery text to confirm time but order is missing the 2 cheap bottles! !!!!

Does this mean they won't honour the 25% off and if so can I reject the order? Not ordered from them before so help appreciated. Tia.

I used one of the £20 off... they did not have the main thing I wanted... and i got free food
