Ah that's fair enough, you've done your homework! Is your dream home in the same area or a bit away? Our dream home would be in the next town over (about a 15 min drive). There is a difference of about €150,000 in price to go from a 4 bed in this town to a 4 bed in the other town. The plan was to do it up and stay in it for a few years, build up equity and move on but the prices in Ireland have rocketed so in theory we could have probably upgraded this year (equity would be at least €100,000 now) but we are stuck in a 3 year fixed mortgage, not ending until March 2019.

Same area. We love where we live, although we'd prefer to be in the countryside ... but that will have to wait a few years as we're in catchment for one of the top 10 secondary schools in the country so we can't risk moving out and losing the place. The next 6 schools are all in special measures so really want to stay with this one.

Is your mortgage not portable? We have a fixed mortgage but can move it between houses.

Hope you got a bit more done on your list!

It does sound like a good plan for the house, keeping everything crossed it all works out well. Where will you get the money for for the extension?

We're being grown ups on Saturday and finally getting a joint bank account - we've run through both bank accounts to figure out a joint budget and there was a big stinkin' hole in "my" finances where I had to admit to OH what a sucker I am for charities as well as a certain clothing brand's b/s/t page :o Whoops!

Apologies in advance if I cause offence/upset as a long time lurker! I would like to say firstly how I admire how you manage everything so well!
Just a thought re selling your house- if it is in catchment of a fab school then might it be difficult to afford to buy again at in the same area as there's likely to be a very competitive market for houses there?
Also my tuppenceworth, for what its worth or not, re your indecision re another baby- with your history of high risk in pregnancy and premature births ,is it worth risking your own life and possibly a baby's or potentially having another very ill baby while you have so much to cope with at present with your little girl's current and possibly future health needs and hospital appointments as well as the impact of NIM's considerable mental health issues- what would happen to your little family if something dreadful happened to you in a high risk pregnancy? It sounds dramatic but tragically it happened to a family local to me.Horrible thoughts, but I can't help but urge you to consider things carefully re your broodiness. With best intentions :o

I think you make some good points, Biglass. It's never nice stuff to think about but it's definitely things to be considered - it's one of the reasons I'm so in the air about having anymore. I'd hate for something to go wrong for me or any future kids, and Oscar is so awesome that we'd expect the next kid to be the same and they'd probably turn out even more feral.

Starting mortgage things on our end, about to sign our souls away for the next 19 years. Just hope everything goes through nicely because it's perfect, potential forever home material!

No that's a very fair point and the main reason why we are still on the fence, but my balance is I try very hard not to allow fear to govern any decision in life, and my obstetrician believes the risk to me are extremely low, although there would continue to be the same risk to the baby as any other micro preemie. However at the moment I'm leaning towards no more, my two are wonderful and I get so much joy from them and I assume any other child would be the same as Cinny does, however I feel going for 3 might possibly spread my time with each of them thinner than I would like, given I work evenings so I'm limited to weekends already.

We wouldn't have any issue getting another house here. It's a small town, with one secondary school (which is the amazing one) and 6 primaries - 3 are outstanding 2 are ofsted good, all of whom are undersubscribed. Looking on Rightmove there are 94 houses currently for sale within our budget in our area. We actually moved here by accident without knowing the schools were good as the houses were quite generous for the money due to being 1960s/70s and ugly as sin.
