Sony Vaio VGN-AW11M laptop refusing to start up / load properly

My Sony Vaio VGN-AW11M laptop was switched on yesterday evening but not plugged into the electric so it went off and it is refusing to load since. A black screen with white writing appeared offering two suggestions and I tried both (I sat up with the laptop until 6am this morning). One option was to start normally and the other was to attempt to repair it. When I selected the option to repair I let it run for over 7 hours and it did nothing - the line just kept going from left to right on the screen.

Has anyone any suggestions how I can get it working again?

You can try a repair with full Vista media, which I'll find in a minute. Though I'm thinking that you might want to move on from Vista soon anyway. We can look at that afterwards.

Try this link or if you prefer this link(file 2 for 32 bit or file 3 for 64 bit. Ignore the error msg and click on the blue button to continue.

I am currently using someone elses computer. Should I click on the link or will it affect their computer?

Nothing to affect their PC. You will download the image and then we'll create the DVD. You should have a blank DVD disc to hand

I pressed F8 and I tried to get it to do a System Restore however it brought up the following,

    "The disk (C:) has errors.

Windows has detected file system corruption on (C:). You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored.

    Check the disk for errors

    Ok".

I pressed the OK and so far it has "196,113 files processed."

the three recovery disks will only reinstall Vista to how it was when the lappy was first switched on, losing all the docs/pics/music etc. in the process. Nifty is helping you to avoid that if possible ;)
