Sony Vaio VGN-AW11M laptop refusing to start up / load properly

My Sony Vaio VGN-AW11M laptop was switched on yesterday evening but not plugged into the electric so it went off and it is refusing to load since. A black screen with white writing appeared offering two suggestions and I tried both (I sat up with the laptop until 6am this morning). One option was to start normally and the other was to attempt to repair it. When I selected the option to repair I let it run for over 7 hours and it did nothing - the line just kept going from left to right on the screen.
Has anyone any suggestions how I can get it working again?

Sorry, Vista.0 -
You can try a repair with full Vista media, which I'll find in a minute. Though I'm thinking that you might want to move on from Vista soon anyway. We can look at that afterwards.0

I am currently using someone elses computer. Should I click on the link or will it affect their computer?0

Nothing to affect their PC. You will download the image and then we'll create the DVD. You should have a blank DVD disc to hand0

I did create 3 recovery discs for her before when she gave bother or are you trying to do something else?0 -
I pressed F8 and I tried to get it to do a System Restore however it brought up the following,
"The disk (C:) has errors.
Windows has detected file system corruption on (C:). You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored.
Check the disk for errors
Ok".
I pressed the OK and so far it has "196,113 files processed."0 -
the three recovery disks will only reinstall Vista to how it was when the lappy was first switched on, losing all the docs/pics/music etc. in the process. Nifty is helping you to avoid that if possible......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
